New Illustrator, please help!

Hi everyone, I have an opportunity to illustrate a story that is 4,400 words, I don't know what to call it because it's a little too short for chapter and too long for it to be a picture book. It will be a ebook and he wants cover art and whatever else for the inside. He and I haven't spoke to each other yet, I have just gotten done reading it and we have emailed prior to this. What are some questions or things I need to do. It sounds like this is his first time of doing this and has a small budget, hasn't told me what yet. Do you ask for royalties and what amount etc. I'd appreciate any and all advice!!!
Ann

Re: New Illustrator, please help!

this is my UNEDUCATED idea but I don't really know if you'd ask for royalties if you are both kinda new to this.
Personally, I'd look at it as a way to get my foot in the door--to show other potential customers what I've done/can do.

Not saying you shouldn't get paid but if you are interested in doing this I wouldn't sweat the money aspect of it. Just don't sign any contracts without a lawyer reading it first!
