Waiting to get Pickled

This painting is another in my mason jar series that is done on stretched canvas 12 x 24 inches in acrylic. It was a lot of fun to paint, although the ceramic bowl just about drove me loupey. It was very hard to get the surface to look smooth and shiney. Not sure if I pulled it off or not.

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated,

Thanks for looking,
Linda

P.O. it looks like the painting is sloping but it is only my poor photography

I think you pulled it off wonderfully! The bowl looks great, and you did fantastic on the glass jar.

Is that a red cabbage?? Germans absolutely love Rotkohl and I have enjoyed cooking it with certain reservations!!! A fantastic still life. Beautiful colours-incredibly realistic. Love it.

Re: Waiting to get Pickled

Thankyou everyone for your great comments. It is indeed a red cabbage, Chammi and we cook it in our household every christmas and thanksgiving day. It is a favorite in Canada as well.

Re: Waiting to get Pickled

Yes, you've most definitely achieved a shiny wood surface. I like the simplicity of the composition and the colours provide a nice harmony. The glass of the jar is rendered beautifully. If I had any critique, it would be that I'm a bit unclear as to the direction of the light source - unless there is more than one. The cast shadow from the bowl would indicate that the right side of the bowl should be darker & also the left side of the apple? I think this might help create more depth to the bowl also. Having said that, I really am being picky. I do like this work very much!

Re: Waiting to get Pickled

Thankyou Coralie for your comments. The lightsource is indeed from the left and the right. I photographed this set-up in a room that has windows at both ends. BTW I love your artwork! Very original.
