Best Friends - FINISHED

Well, I have started my first Graphite white board. I am using a scapel to tone and blend. I would have used a gray tacky eraser if I were doing it on paper, but since scratching is what scratchboard is all about I wanted to use a tool, at least this time.

This is from the RIL. I have been saving this for a couple of years and it seemed to fit what I wanted to do. It is an image from Goody4u and I am using a 14x 18 board. My range in pencils is from an H to a 9B, and just about everything in between. I am including a close up of the face and I have two very extreme closeups as well. I really need to get in there and fix the chin.

Be gentle, please.

Diana

Re: Best Friends

Am lovin" it already Diana. Will be starting my first whiteboard with coloured pencil soon when my new pencils arrive, so will be watching this one very carefully as I do love the way you render, no matter what medium you use.

Re: Best Friends

As a graphite work it stands out very well. Any specific reason for using
graphite on SB. Is it to use white board or just trying to experiment with another medium. You excel in whatever you do.

Be gentle, she says. Ha! As if we think you would do anything but your usual outstanding work! And this is already looking outstanding!

Re: Best Friends

Thanks Cathy!
Thank you Wendy!
Thanks Eilis, I have never tried Graphite pencil on clayboard before. I have many color pencil boards under my belt, but this really is different.
Thank you Lesley. I don't see any of my color pencil WIPs in the WIP sticky, so here are two that may help you with your new projects.

Thanks Patrick!
Thank you Venkat. I wanted to try a graphite pencil in white board just to try it. The advantages I have noticed so far are the ease in which you can "remove" mistakes. I can work faster than with paper because I can make a dark spot and get my mottling with a scalpel instead of working it up in layers from light to dark like you would on paper. However I like the surface of paper for getting darks and the pencil grabs paper better. I may try a gesso board next and see how that works.
Lorna, you are such a generous lady.
Thank you Karen! Hey, I'm only in the next state. Perhaps we can get together some day for a mini workshop.
Thanks Mark, for the comment and the inspiration.
Thanks Lynn!
Thank you Diane!
Thanks Rodman! I am a bit nervous about this one so I am taking it slow.
Thank you Angela!

Here is my latest scan and I am, again, including a closeup. I got so obsessed with the mouth and the chin I was spending more time there than the rest of the entire piece. I had to give it a pass for now and move on, so we are ignoring the mouth and chin, ok?

Diana
