framing question
I have recently seen several framed paintings with a frame that does not overlap the canvas at all, and was wondering if there is a specific name for that type of frame, or is it just something you have to rig up yourself? It looks like just a thin plain wood frame, and I have seen ones where a thin black plastic cord has been wedged between the frame and the canvas (I assume to hold the frame in place as well as fill any gaps). I have not seen the back of any of these, so I don't know if there is some trick to assembling it or not. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks!
