Need Advice - spray mistake

Well, here is my situation - I have done my own water lily pencil painting from my own photo from my own little pond - only my second original - last night I sprayed it with Americana Matte Spray and it left little white spots on the water - any one ever have this problem - can I buff it out, or sand it off - I'm open to any, any, any suggestions!

I have not posted the picture because I haven't taken a good one of it yet but I will try for tomorrow.

Thank you, for any help!

Bev

Bev, I have had that happen with spraying pastel and what I have done is sprayed again over it and it disappeared but with CP I am not sure. I know others will weigh in here and give you their suggestions.

Re: Need Advice - spray mistake

Bev, I am not sure if this is what happened to you but I did this once and I realized that I did not blend into the pours of the paper well enough. When I sprayed it opened some small spots where I could see the paper. This may not be your problem if you see white spots on the surface. If you try to remove find one in a proper area and test before you do too much. Let us know what you find. Is you paper white? Rick

Re: Need Advice - spray mistake

Hi, Bev!

I've had something like this happen before... It was little hard flecks of the fixative that sprayed out 'cause I hadn't used it for a while.

Was this a final or a workable fixative?

If it's workable, you can probably go over the spots with cp and make them less visible.

If it's a final fixative, I'm not really sure... Hopefully someone else will wander through with good suggestions for you!

Thanks everyone - it is the final. I think that I will try to softly sand it off or try the eraser and the see if I can just go over it with the pencils again and save it. It is about 2 sections that are about 1" square.

Thanks again

Bev

I don't know what to tell you to fix it, but some things to consider before spraying.
Watch the Temperature. If the temp is 80 deg. or over the spray will begin to dry before it hits the paper. Better to just wait all summer if you have to.
Don't spray if it is windy (I do mine outside) Same reason as above.

Re: Need Advice - spray mistake

Either your spray was old,
or the temp was wrong, too much humidity can do that;
by the way, always turn your spray can upside down and spray a scrap paper before spraying the piece. It iliminates blotches of fixative. I have tried alcohol to lift fixative, since it is esentially a varnish, just be careful t keep your paper towl or kleenex not too saturated. Go easy or you will take off the cooor or scar the paper. without knowing what paper you used, it is a suggestion in the dark. Try a corner of the painting not to ruin the whoe piece. Andi

sorry for the typing mistakes, one handed...hope this helps
