Country Color

I was up at my uncle's yesterday and this morning. Beautiful weather.

These are all oil on 11x14 masonite.

Great! Where does your Uncle live? Compositions are very nice and paint handling is excellent! Annie

Robert, these are beautiful! I especially like the first---really great setting of the compositional elements, and you make the handling of the large green expanse look easy. Excellent job with the architecture as well. I'm also a big fan of your treatment of color and value in the third. It all reads perfectly.

These are great. Nice the way you manage to capture that look of mountains in the distance that are purple and orange at the same time, and you've got it perfectly. Your uncle's place is lovely-.

I like all of them, but there is something about the bottom one that really grabs me. I like how you run patterns thru your work.

Ann - thanks. My Dad's people are mostly farmers from the Virginia foothills, near the NC/VA border. The nearest town is Martinsville, about twenty miles away. The nearest big towns are Winston-Salem and Roanoke, both about an hour away.

Thanks, Jamie - it's pretty country. That house is where my Uncle Willy lived. He was my grandmother's brother and he died young. He was a sheriff in the county and he had to lead some IRS agents to a still on a cold wet winter night. He developed pneumonia and died a few weeks later.

Thank you - I like using dioxazine. Sometimes I think I might get carried away with it.

Annabella - thank you. That's "No Business Mountain" in the background. I think it was named that because anyone else but people making liquor had no business being there.

Bill - thank you. The third one makes more compositional sense, I agree. I liked doing the clouds in the other pasture scene, though.

it's a treat to see your post as I'm an infrequent visitor to the plein air scene.

Re: Country Color

Wonderful! I am intigued by the dry brush mixed with the still green ground cover in addition to the underpainting.
Sorry to hear about your uncles untimely passing. What a lovely way to create a lasting memory to the land he walked.
