Seascape Tutorials & Books

So everyone, as you may I know I am self taught IMO. I've taken classes here and there cross country and even went to college for it but lately the more I study on my own, I feel I know less and less.

So, I have been trying to read up on Seascapes however, and it may just be me I can find nearly NO information on painting them.

I can find the odd information about fog (But I live in the SF Bay Area, the best place IMO to study it), or about how to paint a boat but nothing really in depth about waves and water study aside from byron's amazing tutorial.

When it comes to books I always find a single page about it, but after watching Endless Summer and Endless SummerII back to back for the umpteenth time I realized that there is a radical shortage on the topic.

I know Walter Foster used to make a book on the subject, and North Light Books has one now, but other then those 2 has anyone else seen a online tutorial or book on the subject? Here are the links I have found:

Our own Byron Pickering has a DVD workshop on painting the sea: http://www.pickeringstudio.com/.
There is also a book by E. John Robinson- Painting the Sea in Oils Using Special Effects.

The E. John Robinson is an excellent book. The Anatomy of Waves was a tremendous help for me and also foam & Spray. Not to mention color, composition, atmosphere.

Also, Carl G. Evers is an awesome realistic painter.
Rick Scott if you like a sort of surreal look for seascapes. Its a Jim Warren sort of look. Here is Warrens website:

E. john robinson is the man for realistic and painterly oils and watercolors. He also has many videos for sale. He lives up the coast in Mendecino. On the other hand for more abstract ideas try Edward Betts "Creative Seascape Painting". I check these books out at the Library often. Good Painting.

Michael,
You might already have enough "tutorial" at your disposal now with what you found and
the other good suggestions. I'd be a little leary of flooding yourself with too many varying instructions (no pun intended). Find a few contempory and past master's whom you really like and study their pictures, and even try to emulate them.
If you don't like to paint on location, at the least go watch waves for a half an hour, maybe sketch the immediate memory of things you see with graphite or charcoal.
Digi photo them. Get a feel for their movement and flow..the things no instructional dvd or book can provide. I am partial to the old guys from the northeast...Homer, Trost-Richards, Bannister.

Jon I was posting this so we could help one another since there is little information on the WWW. I wasn't doing this just for myself; if anyone thought I was I apologize. I was merely trying to help the community since Byron, our resident master of waves is the only one who has provided a tutorial here on Wetcanvas Marine section.

Sure Michael, I understand,
If I come across any direct reference material, I'll post it. No matter even if you were posting for your own knowledge, we'd all benefit from the links and info that develops in the thread anyway, the way I see it. Its a good topic.
