Reference Image Library issue--head's up

I just wanted to let you know about an announcement which the site owner, Kerri, made in the Reference Image Library about a copyright violation, where the images the photographer uploaded may not have been his own.

I know many of the CP artists use the WC! reference library, so you may want to read her annoucement, and if you have any questions, you can ask it to Kerri in her thread (link above), where she will have more informed answers than Judy or I will have.

Kerri has submitted a link to the many photos this member has downloaded. All of his images have been removed from the library. Please note that only one image had a report of a copyright violation, but all were removed as a precaution. You may recognize some images that you have used.

Please remember that no one has all the answers yet, as it is a legal matter now, and is being taken quite seriously by the site owner and her council. Please refrain from any personal attacks or speculation of this member, as he is no longer a member to defend himself, and any attacks or negative comments made would be against the user agreement.

I guess I'll just do it as a private practice piece now.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked thro the images and had more than a few in my favorites. Do we delete these or is it automatic when they are deleted from the library? wanda

If you bookmarked (marked as "favorites" in I.E.) the link to the images, they should now return an error message, as the images will no longer be at those addresses. If, however, you downloaded them to your computer, you will still have them.

As for Jay and Robin's suggestion that anyone who has good photos that might appeal to an artist for subject matter is welcome to upload them to the RIL. Given the loss of material from this sad situation, I think we would all be grateful if you did!

This is really a sad thing, but it reminds me that I've been too much of a library taker, not a giver. I'll be uploading some photos I took, in case anyone else can use them.

I just posted a suggestion on Kerri's thread that we try to find out what subjects were removed and that we make a collective effort to start uploading replacements.

I have deleted all that I downloaded. Just a shame. They were gorgeous. Do not want any trouble. That's for sure.

arrgh!! i've done a few of them already, and i was just starting a set of three underwater paintings for my bathroom - oh well

If you read the original message from our owner there is a reference to the photo group that these were taken from. They are all there.

Gord, Take notice of this part of Kerri's announcement:

Wow - why would anyone take the time to upload that many images that aren't their own. Big bummer - there were soooo many gorgeous shots - I agree - too good to be true!
