Jump Ring Polishing

I'm going to be making Sterling Jump rings to weave chain. I'm probably going to need to tumble polish the rings.

Any thoughts on what medium to use?

Wayne

Re: Jump Ring Polishing

Hi Wayne, I think most people would recommend stainless steel shot as the easiest and most effiecient media. Carbon steel shot works, too, but it takes special care to keep it from rusting. Porcelain media works well, I hear, but I'm not sure if you'd also get the same amount of hardening......anyway, I'm very happy with stainless steel shot.

Re: Jump Ring Polishing

Hey Brenda,
Thanks for the reply. I have seen the ceramic and porcelain media but have no information on it's effectiveness.
I appreciate your response.
Wayne

Re: Jump Ring Polishing

No problem, Wayne. The nice thing about steel is that you get both the burnishing (polishing) and hardening action, which is good with jump rings--makes them less flimsy.

Hey, I see you're in IL! There's a few of us here
