Just my opinion

as a painter that works in oils, i feel that this would be the appropriate area to start this thread. a place for fellow painters, in oils, not glass blowers, or bead stringers, but oil painters. we, as artists, (oil painters) at times like to discuss things that may, or may not stick to topic. but that's just us artists.
so if nobody minds, i'd like to have a thread of this nature, and lets see where it takes us. you just never know do you? if we can refrain from being anything but nice to one another, and i know that this is the place for that, maybe it won't get closed. just maybe.

i painted today. all day. in oil. i won't post any images, but it's coming along great.

there. i started an oil painting thread. lets see how long it can remain open until i've got number five under my belt.

Personally I'd rather see some images to talk about. What are you working on and why don't you want to post it? And... what kind of brushes do you use the most?

Re: Just my opinion

Personally, I would prefer to see images that explain how you work and then read an explanation about why. A lot of conversation is not as helpful as looking at the paintings. Now that is just my opinion.

Re: Just my opinion

I'm relatively new at painting and oil painting. Used retouch varnish for the first time today. Like the way it looks but HATE the way it smells. It made me sick to my stomach and now I am getting a headache. Wish there was an alternative.....

I assume you are talking about "copal" retouch varnish? I always take mine outside to spray it and am very careful about which way the wind is blowing and where my cats are located.

I'm not sure. It is Utrecht's brand. Next time will definitely take it outside but still have the problem that the painting still smells strong even after several hours. Would hate to leave it outside for too long....

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the answer about the brushes. It's greatly appreciated. I wrote it down and will try them.

Yeah!!! At least one of us did!
I had the AC going in my studio all day, but like a ninny, I checked my email, got frustrated with my deficient Norton Internet Security (doesn't keep out the 100+ spam per day and you can't talk to a REAL techy online -- just go around in circles in their automated system); so I spent the day downloading a new security software (Panda)! Turned off my AC around 7:45 pm (Pacific) -- never picked-up a brush. !#$%^&*%#*!!!!

What do YOU GUYS suggest I do about the overwhelming, disgusting spam I receive? (As long as we're not rigidly sticking to one subject)

How're YOUR painting(s) coming along??? Let us live vicariously.

Hmmm, I can't seem to find 'Spell Check'.

Carolyn

Well, personally I think McAfee is the best anti virus solution. You can talk to a live tech night or day in a chat session and they will even give you extended solutions if you think you have a virus (i.e. they will email patches to you and the like.) Never tried Panda tho. As far as spam goes, sometimes I spend all day reporting it. It helps a little. Sometimes I unsubscribe. But usually I just delete.

I could not paint today. My studio was an oven. All I have is a fan. I unloaded two truck loads of manure into my garden that my friends brought over.

I'd love to see your work Jeffrey. Is there some reason you are not showing us? WIPs are really fun and educational.

Regards.
Dianne

Re: Just my opinion

Hmm.. sounds like what we usually call "The Oily Rag" thread! I haven't seen a daily Oily Rag lately, so it don't hurt to chat a bit.

I painted a little today, but I was very tired and didn't dare do much. That's usually when I make really STUPID decisions.. thinking I'm being "creative".

Helen
