My artist's date for this week. (#1)
This week I am going to head for Lake Erie. I'm stopping at the day-old store to buy bags of bread for the seagulls and Canada geese. I'm taking a camera and some 800 speed film so that I can capture the birds in flight after I bribe them with the goodies. I'll also take a sketchpad and pens or charcoal, instead of pencil, coz I need to loosen up a bit again. After I do some sketches and take some photos, I'll feed the birds some more, just because they are such fun to watch and they make me laugh. If the sun is out, Ill stay long enough to watch the sunset.

Gisela, that sounds like a wonderful artist date! Wish I could be there, too. I love to buy lunch sometimes and drive to a nearby park and sit on the wall next to the lake so the ducks and geese will come over and visit!
I always try to feed the uglier ones because I see other people throwing scraps to all the 'pretty' ducks.
My date this week was a floor cloth class where I painted a canvas floor cloth...was a lot of fun!

Hi everyone,
I'm excited about my date. The weather is co-operating beautifully as it is in the mid to upper 70's. I plan to take a 4-5 mile walk on the beach listening to classical guitar music by Julian Bream.I just want to relax and feel the warm sun and breeze. I hope everyone else has a great time too. It was hard to find something to write about this morning to fill three pages but I am looking forward to my walk.

Hi Everyone,
I always take my camera as well,
In Christchurch, New Zealand we have an enormous park. Called "Hagley Park".
Our main river Avon meanders through the area, the park consists of rose gardens, herb gardens ,tropical, botanical, native and imported trees several hundreds of years old.
Each artist date I take a different path, it is so large one can only cover a small part even with a 2 to 3 hour walk, still have a lot to see.
Also at the entrance to the park is the art centre and museum, one area which will serve many if not all of my artist dates, one could never tire of its beauty,

For my first artist date, not until this weekend, I will be going into town to check out some galleries. I've been "meaning" to do this forever!!! I never get a chance to do this so it should be fun, I'm really looking forward to it!!

This is GREAT!!
I'm so happy to see that we are taking time for our dates. How often do we say "...I've been meaning to..." I know I can get to all the things that I'm doing for someone else, and am always putting off the things that I don't have a 'reason' to do.
Hugs to all,
Gisela

I think for my first artist date I am going to some 5 and dime store...waste a little money on junkie stuff that looks pretty. As
a child I didn't get to do that...the child artist in me wants to, and I am trying to listen... lol

my artist date was someting really special to me. I walked the perimeter of my own property ( i have some acerage ) i have to admit though it was cheating a little 'cause this is something i do every day at this time of year. i call it my "spring check" i walk to each and every tree and shrub & check on thier blooming & budding progress. i talk to each one & guilt them into blooming!! i have always done this in March & report the progress to my husband when i come in. he just smiles.

My date will be to wander through some art books that I have not visited in a long time. I have a bookcase full of books that are my favorites, but some of the others just collect dust. I want to revisit some of these dusty books and see what they have to offer. You know, it is just like growing up...when you are small you just don't like english peas...but one day...wala...you love english peas. lol I think it is time to taste again.

I have to admit that this may be one of the harder things for me in our book activities. I have such a hard time with guilt when I do these things (million other things that need my attention). I did do something, only for me and was fighting the guilt the whole time, but I am glad I did it. It was simple really, I just went to the bookstore (hadn't bought my book yet) and sat there, drank coffee and read for a little while. There was a band there (jazz) it was nice. I later went and rented a movie that only I wanted to see and went home and cuddled up with a blanket and relaxed. First one down, maybe I will get better at this as time goes on.

Friday was my birthday and I always treat myself quite well on my birthday so I decided to go to the AGO in Toronto for my artists date. It was wonderful! They have a visiting exhibit of "Drawings of the Masters"
from the Albertina in Vienna. I saw drawings I have loved all my life by Albrecht Durer as well as some sketches by Picasso, Michaelangelo, Chagall, Van Gogh.... That was really cool - but the paintings in the permanent collection blew me away. I can't believe I have never visited this gallery before,(I only live about 2 hrs. fron T.O.)
My favorites were the Frans Hals paintings. They were sooo wonderful. I got up really close to look at them and they were so alive I half expected the gentleman to say "excuse me but have we met?". This was a really good time!
