Self portrait

Hi all,
This is my very first watercolor painting ever! A self portrait of myself.
All I had to use was my daughters $2 paint box, so I am quite happy with the results.

Re: Self portrait

Hello, scoobydoo! and Welcome (by the way, my absolutely most favorite cartoon ever ).

So, your self-portrait is amazing...a first-time watercolor with a toy paint box! Scooby, take the leap to a set of professional colors, a good brush and paper! You have natural talent, indeed!

Margarete

P.S. Had to say, TIED with Snoopy as my all time most favorite cartoon character! In fact, I even named my puppy (so very many many many years ago) Snoopy, Snoop for short AND Snoopdog for his favorite short name (except my Snoopdog was about 12 inches tall, fluffy, and adorable as all get out! And, that's not to say the famous Snoopdog isn't adorable as all get out)

I so agree, a small Cotman or W&N paintbox and some Arches paper would be a good start. Check out the Top 20 FAQ link in my signature and the Watercolor Demos for tips on equipment and portraits.

Re: Self portrait

Welcome to the Forum, Scoobydoo! Nothing hinky here... I like your mischievous expression and I'm astounded that this is your first watercolour... with children's play stuff... wow...

Yes... I also recommend that you invest in some good quality materials...

Re: Self portrait

Nice work on this portrait Scooby. You certainly have portrait skills, and it shows that you're not new to sketching and color. Keep painting.

Re: Self portrait

Welcome to the Watercolor Forum and we are so glad that you have joined us after lurking so long! (Read your intro!)

This is so lovely and knowing it is your first 'watercolor', good job!! As you can see ^^^^ (above), we have all started with few paints and paper and found that good quality supplies make a world of difference to our work!!

When you post in this Forum, we like to know more about your work: size of the painting, paints used (which you told us), and paper used.

Looking forward to more of your work.

Katherine
