Re: one photo and the painting with a detail

Lovely use of color.
Portrait aspect is very tricky-- there is a slight head rotation to her left. Don't try to make it into a head-on view (this is a common mis-step). Look at the right side of the mouth and nose. Check where the ears are-- a bit high? The left side of her neck is too far out. Look at top of her left arm--the curve. I would like to see a touch more shadow under her chin. All adjustable details.
This has a beautiful painterly feel.

Lovely pastel tones, set off by the strong green background. Very nice.

I've long admired your work; this will prove to be another beauty.
Re the photo: It is a happy coincidence that the frames of her glasses at right are almost same colour as the right side of her mouth, and that the shape of the frame at her right eye (outer edges) mimics the shape of her mouth at the right. In your piece I miss the double smile.

I don't ever see things the way others do. To me you have everything just right except her eyes in the photo seem larger than in the painting. I love the painting you've done.

Re: one photo and the painting with a detail

Karenlee and Wassie:

Painting from a photo is entirely different than painting from life; If I were to post a portrait done from life or one even done from a photo without displaying the photo and it looked like the person then one would not be able to see the difference; consequently, it would be judged by it's painting quality and not the nuances that you both rightly see. I normally do not make excuses for my work but I did have a stroke a year or so ago and I suffer from distorted vision in what once was my good eye (MD) but hey; I'm lucky to be painting; by the way I agree with you both, thanks for looking and thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Not bad for an old man with a shaky hand and impaired vision. In my lifetime I've been called a genius and an idiot and while I'm neither of the two I sometimes I think I'm one or the other.

Re: one photo and the painting with a detail

You are painting much better after a stroke than most people without that setback! I had no idea you had any visual impairment. The nuances as you call them that I had brought your attention to were in response to your comment, "Somethings wrong;" I would not bring up such minor things with a painter of less ability than you. I now regret that my comments may have appeared too harsh! You have no need to apologize or "make excuses" for your work; as you see, we all find it praiseworthy.
* * * * * *
As for the eyes being "larger in the photo than in the painting," I interpreted that to be intentional; the child is obviously nearsighted, and the lenses in her glasses enlarge her eyes in the photo. In your painting, you compensated for that distortion, and wisely so. I think that was absolutely the right thing to do!

You fine sir ' say Ive a way with words ......I like the way you think too ... And paint .and draw for that matter .... I at least know this ...-- for a guy with bad-ish eye sight Charles you see more than most would in a life time and you never need to fear what people think on ur art .... It's artist with great sight and knowing that know this .... I'm humbled and I've even been worthy to have ur more than expressive sublime work !!!! ....when I gaze at that I see the genius behind the man .... You would make a great teacher .... I'd love to spend five minuets in a room with u ... I of course would wanta climb inside your brain ....
