Through the avenue of the giants - wip
I'm getting close to finish and wondering if I should break up the front tree on the right side with some foliage. Maybe like a fern or branch. Thinking of adding a log or some large rocks somewhere near the path. Suggestions ? C&C welcome. My instincts are telling me I should add a close up fern. What do you guys think?
This painting is from a combination of a couple pics I took while on a recent road trip. On day two we drove through the avenue of the giants off the 101 just south of Eureka CA..
12" x 17" senns.

Very nice, Rich. I love the rays of sunlight coming through the trees and the texture of the bark. You may not want to do too much to draw the viewer's eye to the lower corners of the paintings.

Lovely, Rich and I do like tha sunlight. I might add some grasses near the bottom of the tree to break up the strong vertical.

Re: Through the avenue of the giants - wip
Thank you Sammy and Pat.
Worked on a little more. I've taken your advice and added foreground grasses, modified the path some and added some greenage growths to the bark of the closest trees. I don't think I'm gonna do much more to it.
This painting is second of the "California coastline road trip 2012" series. Painted from a couple of ref pics I took and imagination. Title is "Through the avenue of the Giants".
Started the day early in Eureka, CA., drove south on the 101 and diverted off the highway to drive through the ancient, magical forest amongst the redwoods..
C&C welcome. If you think I need to change something, please feel free to comment. Thanks.

Nicely done and I like the softness as it adds to the diffused light.

Rich, this is great. The softened sunlight is amazing. Have you seen Star Wars, because this totally reminds me of the third movie. Yes, I'm a geek .

Thanks Pat and Alan. Ewok scenes was filmed here, from return of the Jedi. I kept thinking I might see an ewok pop up in the ferns.

Haha, I'm glad you got my reference. You'd be surprised how many still haven't seen that movie . BTW, I hate Ewoks.

Love the diffused look - great idea to soften the scene. The rays of light coming through the tree canopies is really well done. The foreground tree bark is very nice.
