Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge MAY-Female deitie, goddesses, mythological figures.
Since May is mothers day I though of celebrating female Goddesses, and Mythological figures of all kinds! Greek goddess, fairies, women warriors, deities ....
This is an activity thread for artists of all experience levels, and that work in any medium. Being traditional painting, drawing, or digital art. Since this is a group activity, we can pool our knowledge and resources, and grow as artists in a fun, no-pressure atmosphere. No critiques unless specifically asked for. Please, no harsh critique! The intent is to have fun, try new things, and experiment.
I look forward to seeing your work!

Great idea! Here's a mermaid I did a few years ago, acrylic on calico for a charity quilt project. Photo may be a tad small. I'll do better later. Gail

Wonderful! Mermaids are one of my favorite subjects. I think I will make a painting of a mermaid too!
I love her movement!

Maria that is a stunning piece. Love the colours. Bristol is great to work on with pen and markers.
Gail I love your mermaid. Very cool design.
I really like the theme this month, hopefully I'll get something done.

Gail, what a delightful mermaid. She's really enjoying her swim!! Graceful and elegant.
Maria, I was thinking of doing Kwan Yin too and didn't realize yours was one too until I read it again. Very colorful combo. I'm going to try markers this time to join you.

Stillman & Birn Alpha 5.5 x 8.5 inch hardbound sketchbook 100 lb
Here's a Guan Yin, the goddess who protects fishermen in Chinese mythology, with Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencil and Holbein gouache bronze background.
I went through two reworks on this one and you could read about it here. The final piece is not very good.

Wow Sandra, just WOW. Your drawing is so amazing that looks like the photo of a sculpture!
I can just picture her in the front of the boats leading the way!

Thank you, Maria.
Venus and Bacchus, with Cupid beside her. Reference from Hans Von Aachen's work.
Stillman & Birn Alpha hardbound 100 lb sketchbook
I put in 5 hours on this one trying to smooth things out and darken things. You could see the process here.
I have to draw bigger next time when I use Caran D'Ache Luminance colored pencils again on this textured surface.

Curious, can the goddess be from your own mythology?
Lovely images already by the way.

Of course Chaosia, I have really been wanting to see you work again!
Sandra, as always wonderful. You are such a prolific artist! I really like the contrast of the background against the skin. I am going to have to goggle that artist. Do not know much about him ....

Thank you, Maria.
Here's a marker job as promised. But it's Kurektake Manga ink and G nib first and then Shinhan markers. I didn't realize that the markers could dissolve this waterproof ink because it's alcohol.
Pentalic 70 lb sketchbook 5.5 x 8 inch
Eleven faced Kannon goddess in Japan - Goddess of Mercy
You could read about it here.

Lovely work, everyone - and thank you for the positive comments. Here's another one I painted ages ago using acrylics on fabric, inspired by a Linda Ravenscroft design. Gail

Re: Fantasy/Sci-Fi Monthly Challenge MAY-Female deitie, goddesses, mythological figures.
Well this is an old piece but fits the theme well, seeing as she is the goddess of life, and plays the roll of mother nature too. She is one of my many dragon gods hence the wings and tail.
Seldari' serosae goddess of life, here giving a soul a new form.

Oh might actully have some new art this week heh finally got round to finishing something!
