From Your Reference Library
Last month I found a photo from the library here. I had it bookmarked on my computer but it crashed and I lost everything. I had printed off a reference photo to work from.
I would like to give credit to the photographer but I can't find it now. Does anyone recognize this little girl? I did my best getting a likeness but I did paint it looser than I usually do.
I'd appreciate it. Sorry about the bad photograph. I'm still setting things up and getting use to new programs.
Thank you for looking
Oil on Canvas. 16 x 20

Love, love, love this! I have this photo and have done a pastel of this...I love the painterly approach to this!

If I may note something, her arms suggest that she's older than she is. I mean her arms should be more plump, like the photo shows. But anyway, great job.

This should go under the title "Masterpiece".
I would love to know what your style to produce something like this is. Do you paint blotches or is there a lot of blending?

Amrit I have been thinking about your question. I am terrible at describing things. Not one of my strong points.
I went through my photos and made some closeups. I do paint wet into wet. Some blending but very little. No layering. Whatever the area calls for I paint it. If it's a 6 inch section by 3 inches all the same color and value then I lay it down. So no tiling or blotches.
I hope it helps

Re: From Your Reference Library
Gosh I thought for sure I'd get a reply...
"can't tell by the painting what photo you used"! I'm not real confident with not painting absolutely every tiny little thing I see yet.
Thank you so much Thinky for the link. I spent several hours looking for this photo and gave up. I'm not real great at that!
Dominika her arms aren't showing up right in my terrible photo. Shine is blocking off the viewer left arm and the upper right arm the values didn't come through. But I will measure them now that I have a decent reference to go by!!!
And Judy your pastel rendition is so charming. I have no clue as to how you pastel artists can create such great works using this medium. I really enjoyed looking at your works on your website. I am impressed!!!!
Inmystudio, normally the hands are the hardest part for me but I since this was more impressionistic I didn't stress over them and guess what - they were the easiest part! I guess that's the secret.
Thank you Jayde. Like I said, I'm not real confident yet painting looser so your comment means a lot.
Amrit you are too kind. I appreciate your comment. Made my morning:-). I will upload a closeup of her face so you can see better what I did.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to answer. You all are great:-)

Re: From Your Reference Library
Wow, beautiful. Your painting is better than the reference. It looks more classical.
(And don't try to paint every detail, it will drive you crazy and dampen your creativity.)
