Post Small Figurative Watercolr

<IMG SRC="http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/25-May-2001/FrankRoy.jpg" border=0>
Hi all. . . This is my first submission for a critique. I'm basically a closet painter so only the family and a few friends see what I do. The painting is small 12x10, and was painted from a B&W photo of my father sitting in my wagon.

Don't feel alone.....so am I. Haven't sold anything out into the world in a long time and only friends and family see my work. And now everyone can see here...keep posting....your work is great!

Welcome. Superb work in a difficult medium. Amy is right, you've overstayed your closet visit.

Even if you are a closet painter (like me), and new to Wet Canvas, ou are certainly no beginner! What I like most is probably that you cought "a moment"; a different kind of portrait with the hand shadowing the sun. Very good composition; I like the way the edges of the purple areas in the background leads us to the man's face. Good color balance; colors are echoed here and there (as they should).

Love to see more of your work.

Everything meshes beautifully shapewise, colorwise, even thematically.
The closet is not a bad place, especially if such terric things emerge from it.
I am looking forward to the next experience from this wardrobe.

WONDERFUL!!! Welcome to WC... We'll get you out more!!! lol...
I am surprised to read how many great painters here are not showing/selling their work! When I go to shows, I only WISH I could see more of the quality that pops up on WC.
Also, shows envigorate the artist to paint more... I think the feedback is part of the creative process. Not that we paint to sell. But, viewers complete paintings with his/her own perception. Selling is a bonus rush...
I made the decision to start showing 2 1/2 years ago after being a closet hobbyist for many years... Dozens of lessons and paintings latter, my first show was October 2000 in Paris. Now, I have something hanging in some show domestically most of the time.
It is a whole new world!
WC members are a tremendous help along this winding path... I encourage you all to GET OUT and SHOW!!! End of sermon. lol...

Welcome to Wetcanvas. It's a nice painting. With these comments of wetcanvas patrons, I'm sure you will now feel confident to come out of the closet.
