Re: painting on kozo paper for Chine-Colle?
Water colour or acrylic have both worked for me when I have painted these onto, even very fragile lightweight Japanese and Asian papers. Of course I used these at least the next day after they were done , by which I mean - they were thoroughly dry.
I then applied rice paste to this dry paper just before I put them paste-side-up onto the intaglio plate. Also I was careful not to apply too much paste - I usually brush off some of the rice paste onto a piece of newsprint or tissue paper before I brush it onto the chine colle paper.
By the way - I did not do a multi layered painting onto the chine-colle paper. It was usually something whereby I was not soaking this delicate paper with water and when I used the acrylic I was tending to use it in a watercolour like manner i.e., translucent.
The important thing is not to have it too thick which especially applies to the acrylic.
