Lightbulb WDE 5 November 2010 - ***IMAGES HERE***

Hello and Wellcome to this WDE
With it being Guy Fawkes night on Friday I hope this weekend will go with a bang!!!

I will be posting 16 images and optional challenges

Please wait until all are uploaded before commenting - thank you.

You have 30 minutes to make your choice and choose your materials - you may use any medium.

For the next two hours, just go for it……then STOP!, scan or photograph your work and post it in your own new thread with your title, beginning with WDE, plus date, plus title.

When you introduce your work, please add a description of size, medium, support (paper, canvas etc) and time taken.
If your work is digital, we'd appreciate a description of whether it's freehand drawing/painting, manipulated image or done using the filters available in some programmes - you could also say which programme you've used.
All are acceptable but we'd like to know the "hows, whys and wherefores"!!

Use WIP for any work in progress at the 2 hour mark, and MI for multiple images if other works are to be added before the following Monday.

NB. To avoid forum flooding, please put all of your work during the weekend, for the current WDE, into a single thread: multiple threads will be merged!
From the following TUESDAY, you may open a new thread for later work.

You have the whole week to participate - until the next WDE starts (usually Friday). If you finish a piece after that time, we now run a 'Catch-up' thread in the forum each month where you can post any WDE not completed in its allotted week .... it's a sticky near the top of the forum page.

Dave the cat sends his apologies for absence from this event. He will be back for the next one . Cats get veru frightened by bangs and fireworks so he is busy hiding. In the meantime if you are suffering cat withdrawals you can always draw his brother Bo from the invite

Here follows 16 images and a choice of 2 optional challenges.......

First some scenery and buildings:

This is Carew Castle in Wales.....

Still on a historic Scene we are going 15 minutes up the road from my home to find the Village of Ambian Parva, at the Bosworth, Battlefield site.......

The Rose garden at Arbury Hall gardens - this only 2 streets from my home.

Old Smugglers Cave below the cliffs at Lydstep, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

A spooky tree in Epping Forest, Essex (anyone know the name of this species of tree? )

A couple of florals....
A little pre-season but a Christmas poinsettia

A Dahlia from my garden... This one is STILL in bloom.....

The ever-popular animals....

A perky meerkat taken at Manor House Wildlife zoo in Wales.

Horse being groomed for Bosworth Battle reenactment

More horses - with riders at Bosworth Battle Re-enactment day

Now some people.....

'Soldiers' at the battle of Bosworth re-enactment

My Dad with my son as a baby (very old scanned photo - my son is 26 now!) Sorry it isn't better quaility but that in itself is a challenge.

and here is my son a little older on the beach at East Runton, doing some beach civil engineering.

My niece, Martine, in her Catwoman costume at a gig last New Year's Eve.

more to come......

Last ones...

Objects or still lifes....

This was taken at a place called High Beach in Epping Forest, Essex, where all the bikers gather all year round whatever the weather for a cuppa and a chat and to admire each other's bikes... Harley Davidson

Medieavel field kitchen (spot the rat in the onion basket )

Of course feel free to manipulate the images as you wish, remove or add bits or combine refs.

OPTIONAL CHALLENGES

1/ Monochrome. Not necessarily just greyscale but can be a tonal range (inc white of course) of any colour.

OR

2/ As it is Guy Fawkes Day today (5th November) we celebrate with fireworks and the burning of the 'Guy', usually old clothes stuffed with paper or straw made to look like an effigy. We have a bonfire and hot jacket potatoes and bangers (sausages). Add something to commemorate this event into the piece.

If you need a higher res (except the old scanned photos) message me your email address and I'll send you a higher res one.

HAVE FUN!!!
I can't wait to see what you do with these.

Lin, thanks for the great pics and that tree looks like a Pollarded (cropping and training) tree which was started centuries ago in England (Beech was one of the trees used) according to Wikepedia

Great photos, Lin. I hope to be able to participate this week. Do you by any chance have a closer shot of the fountain in the rose garden. Looks very interesting.

Re: WDE 5 November 2010 - ***IMAGES HERE***

Just popped in to see your images (niiice!)...when I read it was Guy Fawkes night this little ditty I learned in grade school popped into my head...hope I've remembered it right. (please correct me if it's wrong and tell me if there's more)

Please to remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot,
For I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Why that stuck with me all these years, I'll never know!

Looks like great fun, Lin. I imagine I'll be playing with the castle, if I get to play at all. I'm working all weekend, it seems.

Thanks for hosting!!

Re: WDE 5 November 2010 - ***IMAGES HERE***

well I had to do some research about Fawkes day, and the pollarded tree:

Pollarding is a pruning system in which the upper branches of a tree are removed, promoting a dense head of foliage and branches. It has been common in Great Britain and Europe since medieval times and is practiced today in urban areas worldwide, primarily to maintain trees at a predetermined height.

looks like a fabulous weekend ahead!!!
