One thing that I do like about impressionism is the fact that the brushstrokes become flowers, they become people and vice-versa. It is the obvious reminder that it is, after all, only paint, yet stimulates us enough in the illusion to hold both realities in the same eye.
There must also be a great sense of freedom, almost that of lovers running naked through a garden, the flight of a butterfly in painting this way, as well as sensual.
