Re: Frank the dog
Welcome back after years away from the medium! The overall proportions seem fine to me, though I feel like the angle that the dog is facing has changed slightly. Maybe it is due to the handling of the shadows of the left side of the face (from viewer’s pov). I do really like how you have given some reds in the fur though.
If this were my painting, I would be treating this as the first layer, allow it to dry and break out the smaller brushes to work in some more on the halftones. There is a ton of subtle things going on in the half tones of the reference, and much of it is small subtle shifts in tone.
Once again, great job for having not painted in oils for a long time.
