Good Morning Painter People... I submitted this pair of Loons to a juried exhibition. They were rejected, but I was ok with that because they're gracing a wall in my family room.
Each is gallery wrapped 16x20" on Fabriano Artistico 140# paper. A very limited palette of burnt sienna and ultramarine blue dominates both pieces with just a touch of red for the eyes and a little green on the heads. The excessive white space didn't photograph well and the black elements look a little flat. Both paintings are dropped into black floater frames for visual impact. It didn't work for the judges! Very special thanks to Alan Wilson of Natures Pics Online for these references. I've painted them in the past, but included a more detailed background.
Your comments and critiques are most welcome!
As a side note, I'd painted this guy in a very short session to demonstrate washy backgrounds, masking fluid and pen work... It was accepted and it sold!
Thanks to WthrLady for the reference which I very loosely adapted.
