Hi, thanks for the comments and feedback. The painting did take me a few weeks working a couple of hours after work every other night or so - I was thinking I'd never get it finished at one point! :-) I do love painting light reflections on water

I suppose I was going for a stylised reality. My stylised flat bottomed clouds are just my thing, you're right that they're not very realistic (the night sky including the moon are not from the photo).

The source photo is more from dusk than my night sky - so I can see why the whole effect is a bit too bright (including the water). The source photo is also very bright as there is so much artificial light in that street/water scene at dusk/night - the buildings do appear very bright in the photo. Luckily, I completed the painting by adding a burnt umber wash to the buildings (more so with the bits way from artificial light) - it was even brighter before! :-)
