I'm entering Damian in the misc. category. He looks "cute" but don't be fooled! Read his story...
After feeding, Atheba returned to the nest to discover that one more egg had hatched, and with that hatching came devastation and hope.
Before his mother returned to the nest with fresh meat for the hatchlings, before he was completely free from the shards of his shell, and driven by a need he couldn't comprehend, Damian devoured all the remaining eggs. Fortunately seven of his siblings hatched the night before and were strong enough to fend off his attacks. Each will forever bare the evidence of Damian's insatiable hunger, and need for dominance.
The survival of the smallest female is doubtful. It is certain she will never fly, so sadly and tenderly Atheba nudges her out of the nest and into the cold void below. The plaintive wails of the doomed hatchling nearly breaks her heart and her tortured cry echoes throughout the walls of the cavern.
Even as she grieves for the loss of her daughter and of so many eggs, Atheba is aware of Damian's potential and wonders if he is the one they have been waiting for. Could he be the one to set them all free?
