I've been working on this one for a week and a half. If I had taken photos of progressive stages, they would have appeared as drastically different paintings. I don't know where I will go from here, but that's alright. All comments are welcome.

hey i really really really enjoy this painting.
the lack of definition make my imagination go to very strange and dark places

strong piece, has the feeling of a heap of bodies (not dead). the upper left gives the sense of distance (the sky) and if that were reapeated in the right upper corner in the same manner (small not overwhelmingly screaming SKY) the pile; " heap of humanity", would really come across. I understand that its unlikely that was your intent, it's just what I see, but it's worth mentioning, I hope.

Mud- I suppose this was part of a healing process for me. I felt a strong urge to abandon tight rendering and allow myself to 'just paint'.

j*- Thanks for mentioning the tension that's present here, I think that's the strongest element in this piece.

Zotma- Thanks for the insight, one thing I am very interested in is what you've described as "one (shape) consumed by the next" I love this idea of confusing the senses, the positive/negative shapes continually switching places.

Amorphis (the band?)- Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

dornberg- Right on, as always.

Cabal- For some inexplicable reason, my computer will not go to any geocities site. Ever. Not even geocities.com. Strangest damn thing. I will try to get on a friends computer to see your site, I'm interested in seeing your work. Oh, and the other site re-routed to earthlink.net. Amy- Definitely worth mentioning, I noticed the sky effect when I saw it reduced on the computer and I think I will try what you suggested (thanks). Although this has gone through some major changes, it has always been a sort of 'heap of bodies'.

Lukasza Banacha -
he has so completely and utterly absorbed and assimilated bekinski into his process of drawing and painting that it's hard to tell the two apart sometimes.

Everetto...and, as it turns out...with all the avenues to explore here...Cabal...
I love this all...I know that sounds quaint and too simple...but, it is not...
this all reminds me of dreams I have had...
and nightmares too...
most I wish to revisit...and do...often...
they are reminiscent of times and place that I know I have been...
and do not remember consciously...
but, they are there none the less...
important to my being, somehow...
and I am drawn to them...
with some kind of love connected to them all...

great to capture illusive dreams...

everetto- yeah, the band! Just like everyone else, I can't get enough of that Finnish black folk metal, heh :)
I really like your work... I've been looking at some other stuff that you've posted too. Lately I've really been getting into 'darker' (is there a proper term for it?) art, like Adam Jones' (of Tool) work and some of the more sinister paintings inspired by Tolkien's Lord of the Rings... anyway thanks for posting, I enjoy looking at your stuff!

giniaad- Wow. Thanks for laying that all out for us. I think what you are describing is the common element in all great art- the mysterious and unknown. And yes, it is especially evident in art that is nightmarish, because such art gives us a jolt of awareness that no other can. I'm glad to hear you embrace it.

Amorphis- That band is among the most innovative that I've heard. Glad to hear you've begun your journey through the 'Dark Wood'. Is your art leaning in that direction also?

Everetto - I don't like commenting on works in progress (takes me back to nosy busybodies looking over my shoulder in art classes "critiquing" and offering unsolicited advice).
