I'm trying to sign up for this project but keep getting the message "you haven't logged in yet." What's that about?
How do I log in?

Go to the main projects page and in the top left hand corner is the log in button. You use the same username and password you use in the forums. Then head to the project you want to join and click sign up.

Thanks Animal,

I had just gone back to the site and figured it out. I think we were posting at the same time. Really looking forward to the project, sooooooo no time like the present to get started.....

Good idea animal, looking forward to drawing the hawk. Good reference pic.

My first sketch of the Harris Hawk. Heeeeere goes......

I had a heck of a time trying to get this to come up on the scanner--just learning how to use IT too. All comments welcome (but please be gentle LOL.)

Guess I need to focus that scanner.

Just graphite--ordinary NO.2 pencil.

greencook 01-23-2002 10:27 PM

Very nice first sketch. I like the detailing work you've done on the feathers. Looking forward to your finished piece.

Have a great day!

I like what you've done here AriadneArts. I know what you're saying about getting sketches to come up on the scanner - I've had similar problems with my daughter's sketches at times. Looks like you've conquered that problem though here! :)

February Animal art project
As a wildlife artist, I think that this is a great project, and can't wait to get started on it.

Thanks Greencook & Auntie_Chaos
Glad to know I'm not alone in trying to deal with the scanner. Sometimes I begin to feel retarded when I can't seem to figure out what later (when you know what you're doing) turns out to be pretty simple.

The sketch was darkened considerably and some outlining done in an effort to get it to come up on the scanner. Still no luck. I could only get it to come up as "line art" and then just faintly. Finally, after just clicking on every single tool, I hit on the brightness/contrast and found that fooling around with these made all the difference. I was even able to get it up as "256 shades of gray." But, even then, it's hard to make it come up looking like the graphite. I'm just going to keep turning knobs and clicking tools--there's plenty to learn on this scanner...:p

This looks like fun! I haven't done wildlife before (mainly my cat) so this will be a challenge!

I'll plan to upload some prelim sketches tomorrow (they will be VERY prelim but that's what progress reports are for!) and the finals next weekend.

My first submission

Hello all,
Here's my first submission for this fun project. Unfortunately my scanner and I don't seem to be gettin along. Even after adjusting the contrast and brightness my image still looks grainy and I've lost some resolution.
BTW, I've just noted I left out a finger on the falconer's wrist (lol :D )
Did this one on Strathmore 80# drawing paper with graphite and charcoal pencils. Not real happy with the hawk's breast. But will hope to do better next go around. The next try, I think I'll use a 140 # watercolor paper. That worked well with my last detailed drawing.
Any and all comments are welcomed. :)

Have a great day! :)
