Last night's figure group 17th October

Last night's model was very keen. I've drawn him once before and he is excellent at holding poses. Included in the 90 minute session was a quick fire group of him 'juggling' with balls. He obviously puts a lot of effort and preparation into the session and he worked us very hard. I did a 15 minute warm up beforehand and It really did help so I'll be doing this everytime from now on.

I often find something amusing in some sessions. As the model was moving around in the quick fire group he bent over right in front of a female student and held the pose for a minute. I'm quite sure he was unaware and had got carried away with his routine but I cant adequately describe the look on her face ...

These first poses are between one and two minutes

The rest are five to 15 minutes

and finally, my warm-up page

Nice flowing lines going on there Dave you have the movement working and I see you are compensating for missing the extremities by drawing the foot, good idea.

Excellent line! Everybody's gesture drawings are different. I love the swoopy-smooth conjoined effect(s) you get with your lines and circular motions in the 1 and 2 minute drawings.

Excellent quick sketches. You must be pleased with these. Looks like the sort of group I'm looking for.

Thanks Bill, a figure grouo is a good opportunity to feature extremities :)

Thanks Bethany :)

Thanks Clifton, Gestures are something I've been working on, i think my warm-up contributed to the style :)

Thanks Harry, a little far for you to travel methinks, but you'd be welcome :)

Thanks Joe, it was a good evening for me :)

Good shapes David: I really like how you're using long lines to provide connectedness.

David- As usual, beautiful work. I really like the foot! Anyway, Iím curious about your drawing group. An atelier type school is the only setting in which Iíve worked with a live model. The model usually holds the same pose throughout the session... sometimes multiple sessions. It seems much more common that the model hold a series of short poses followed by a longer pose at the end. Why? Is this to force participants to focus on gesture? Where was this convention or practice established? Thanks! -Earl

Sorry to be so long replying Earl, I've been sitting in the sun by a pool for the last week ;) Thanks for your comments. I think we have too many short poses in our group and would love to spend at least half an hour on one pose at each session. I've taken to focus on one part of the body on occasions
