In the market for a wheel and kiln... but how do I do this?

I miss pottery so much. I started to get back into it recently when I lived in a town where there was a studio that I could pay for wheel time... but now I'm kind of in the middle of nowhere.

I am possibly in a position to get a kiln and wheel. I don't need a particularly big kiln. I prefer kick wheels but have used electric.

I'm in a house with a few options for spaces I can properly vent.

One big question is... will I find an electric kiln that is not three-phase, as it seems that we can't accommodate that here. I think. Don't know much about that.

I'm in New Jersey, a bit north of Clinton, if that helps...

Any suggestions or recommendations welcome...

Re: In the market for a wheel and kiln... but how do I do this?

I have a large kiln handed down to me from my mother who's also an artist. A wheel on the other hand I would like to find as well. Over the years I've kept an eye out on places like https://craigslist.org for used wheels. I've been looking for used and affordable pottery wheels in the For Sale - Arts/Crafts section, but also keep an eye out in the Free section because I've come across a number of people who have posted used kilns, of all sizes, who are just wanting to give them away because "it wasn't being used" and "in the way," or that their "loved one passed away and they had no need for it themselves." My suggestion is to watch for used ones being offered or given away on craigslist or other similar sites. If you have the time and patience, there's a good chance you may pick one up for cheap or possibly even free within a few months to a year of looking. Good luck! If by chance you happen upon an extra used wheel, please let me know! :)
