Alas, I believe Trevor passed away a couple of years ago and is now in the great studio above. What a coup to have gotten a Chamberlain through eBay. He's always been a favorite of mine, and an inspiration for his dedication to plein air work. I also like David Curtis whom I believe was a student of his. I have the Chamberlain book mentioned and also David's book "A Light Touch". There's much to learn from studying his paintings over and over. I'm happy to see others discovering him.

That is a real downer if true. Are you sure of this? In searching various information sites on him, none indicate that he has passed. How'd you find this out? Man, I hope not.

Question: is this his own home-made box? or one that can be purchased somewhere? It looks really nice.

I have that book from the library, and the box was originally owned by his friend Peter Gilman who, unfortunatly, took his own life and left the box to Trevor Chamberlain. He put a whole chapter in the book with lots of photos of the box so that people could copy it. Sad story, but nice he passed on the knowledge.

I have a book by Alwyn Crenshaw, he uses two small boxes of this kind in the book. I think one is commercial and one he designed himself and marketed called the Oil Traveling Studio, it takes 6x8" boards. Maybe our UK friends know something about this box? Is it available?

Tony :)

mmm, I'd like something small like that. I'm no handyman, so I'm not likely to be able make something.

What gorgeous paintings! Thanks for turning me onto yet another wonderful artist!
BTW, David Curtis has some DVDs out. Anyone seen them?

Re: Trevor chamberlain's pochade box

TC has a new book out available in the UK that was just published, oh, 20 days ago. The title is: Trevor Chamberlain, England and Beyond, A Celebration of sixty years of painting. There are 141 pages of paintings...very little on technique or methods, just paintings in wc and oil. I pre-ordered it. Publishing date was pushed back due to printing issues. Finally received it 2 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to find my copy signed by the artist. Was worth the wait. Btw TC is still very much alive.
