Hi Dark,
Thank you for your reply to my pearls painting!
First, let me say that you handle pastels beautifully, and you have mastered form, color and light. The most delicious part of this, to me, is that apple.

I have just a couple of suggestions for you and they apply to the overall design more than to the technique. WC member Henrik did this for me a while back and it was a big help, so I'll pass it on...

Consider the shape of the whole arrangement. Here's yours. It's kind of hard to tell just what it is. Sort of a blob in the middle of the page ;) Henrik called mine a "splat!" :D

Rearranging things just a little, so that there's some space between them, and a more interesting "footprint" ... the objects are identifiable and the whole shape relates more to the page...

Now you can play with the light and shadow, let the light make a "path" that leads you into the arrangement, to the area of interest, into the background and back again...

Hope this helps!

Ruth you're two steps ahead of me but you explained it better then I could :D I have to agree with everything ruth said, including how you handle the pastels...luscious in that regard.

Dawn, you already know how much I like this piece and your pastel work! :D

Ruth, that is fabulous advice and you've shown it so well. This thread, although short, should really go into the Hall of Fame, so please, those who see it and find it deserving, rate the thread at the bottom of the page!
