This is true...you should get some sort of premium...not just another bill.

In Canada, our medical plan has a small deductible that you pay for your first few prescriptions. But with all my prescriptions for heart and fibro, I soon get into subsidized which is only about 10-20% of full price.

Have you seen the full price of some of those drugs?

No use arguing,eh Sid? Just go with the flow and say 'oh yes, of course you're right'-as usual If they gang up on you, then that takes the pressure of of me, so thanks for that.

As for the rat, how alpha can he be when Jess keeps him in a cage?:crying:

Actually i need to retract this statement because Alizarin is my alpha girl. Rat Umber tried to be alpha when he joined the colony but Ali wasn't having it.

Quinacridone the Eternally Stupid Miracle Rat knew she'd never make alpha and immediately went into submission. Then her passive aggressive side came out and she started picking fights with Umber, resulting in a bitten eye, now she lives alone and is alpha in her own stupid world.

Yup, life has a way of balancing the good with the bad. I was never sick a day in my life until I was 50 or so, then my health went to hell. All of a sudden, you don't feel quite so invincible! When life hands you crap, you need to look around for the shovel to get rid of it! ;)

The flash made all that shine in the background show up. I will cover that when I decide what color background I want in it.

It hasn't improved much since yesterday; I've been doing a lot of back and forthing on it. I'll have more light tomorrow. worked some more on the face, but I'm not sure I achieved any improvement, and I started on the hands and jeans.

How do you mean, Sandra-that they don't know subtleties between different reds, blues, yellows, etc? Sort of like eskimos having 50 words for snow because it's important to them, and artists should know about 50 shades of red.

Yeah mainly what I was getting at:D .... and dam if I do and dammed if I dont ...
I mean some artists wouldnt know what color tone is if it got up off the canvas and slapped them in the face ... color is not easy to perceive and I think when I say sense of color Im meaning it latterly in the hole of the word meaning ~ its learning to see color placement within its context ....

I like what you said above. My son-in-law mentioned that he had noticed how many other colors he thought there were in the world just since he was born. He meant as a true comment, but when people get an education about painting, they really start to actually see more variation in colors than they did before.

Really, it's like perceiving anything in life; a way of looking at the world. It can be done on a superficial level, or you can have a deep perception of all the subtleties of that item. It's also about having a good sense of art history and techniques and extending what has come before-standing on the shoulders of giants and putting your own character into it. If you don't live it and feel it, it won't come out in your art.

I was just thinking. To order Vasari online even in the U.S., they won't ship unless you buy $50 worth of paint. then you have to pay for ground-only shipping on top of that. What I was wondering is if they do that here, would they not only make her get $500 worth of paint, and make Sandra pay for shipping? And on a ship rather than an airplane?

If this is so, maybe somebody should make a deal with them to buy paint we order, take a commission on it, and we pay just for shipping? It would make things easier, and put someone in a decent middleman business.

Hey there, Sandy Sandy-found a great art show called The Private Life of a Masterpiece by the BBC. The one I saw was on the painting Battle of San Romano by Paulo Ucchello. Well worth seeing.

You can watch the series online here:

http://www.ovguide.com/tv/the_private_life_of_a_masterpiece.htm

That site has about 20 other documentaries on famous masters from the 14th-20th century. EDIT: Sorry, but when I went to start videos fro that site, it said that the video was not available in Canada. Maybe others will have better luck.

You're very welcome. I love it when they place a painting in context-it adds so much more. They go into the painting techniques, the history of the battle, the history of the paintings, etc, etc. Considering that the Battle of San Romano was painted around 1430, he was quite ahead of his time. Painting was done in egg tempura. thankyou for sharing Doug , your full of surprises eh!!! I'm not just another pretty face, here, ya know? :-) And with that, I think I'll crash for the night. :D

And then, it was so mild out I decided to walk around and look some things over. To my delight, the branches on the apple tree that had defoliated last summer have buds...and my Daphne that blew out is only 1/2 missing, there is still a live shrub there to bloom this spring...walked through my rose garden too, I may order some new roses for my valentines day.:D

Thinking again... when people talk about all the beauty around us, they use it as an "objective" observation, but it is so very subjective to each one of us. Somebody asked me what my favorite color is and I said all of them. We are as narrow in our viewpoints as we choose to be, and being around other artists is broadening when it comes to thinking about beauty.

But by that expansion, we lose focus on those things that are more attuned to each of us as individuals...I'm still torn between doing portraiture and figures, and doing landscape and plein air. If I get too intense on one area, I lose time, which we all have a limited amount of, when I could narrow my vision to anther area.

I'm thinking placing people in interiors, and with still life objects, and like Sorolla did, outdoors, might be a goal I could focus on as a personal choice.

I'm in love with Becca's images of herself placed in real life settings, especially the outdoor ones like sitting and reading the book. I could not use myself, but I might think about hiring models.

Becca, in case I don't get the camera that I want, would you tell me what camera you use to get the delayed timing for your SPs?

Nancy, I have the Nikon D50. I think it was replaced with the Nikon 9000...ebay stores have the best price..at least that is what I found..it has a remote you can use like a tv remote...just click it at the camrea and there is a 3 second delay...probably why i have a surprised look on lots of my sps.:D
It is so nice what you said about my images... the one under the tree was last spring..before summer wore the dickens out of me.

I just finished painting a little rose..at least I think I am finished.

Do they have senior centers in Oz, where older people get together and talk? They also have games and activities that might help your Dad re-adjust. We have a lot of those places here, and I'm still close with my high school class. You're right; it really does help with your attitude and mood when you're with people your own age.

Do him a favor and look around for him, I'll bet you can find something that will bring him up a little out of that well of depression.

My two elderly next-door neighbors died within a week of each other. They had no children, so they had spent their whole lives together and were so happy with that that they didn't socialize much. They were such sweet people, too.

Good luck that your connection lasts. We get rain all the time here, locals hardly notice it. Couldn't your guy put caulking on the satellite cable connection points? That would help waterproof the connection if the connections were tight and they were protected from the elements. Or, couldn't you make a little 'house' for the dish to shelter it? Hmmm... If satelite dishes work in the arctic, surely they could work in Kansas!?!
I don't think your satellite company is trying hard enough.

Well, Becc, my Valentine date is fast asleep, with the cat who loves him best keeping a feline eye on him. Which is okay with me, since it gives me more time to paint.

:clap:Sandra, I'm glad you're doing some more on your flowers; I know it will be beautiful!

I started a WIP thread on Portraits, more for me than anyone else, to see if I actually am making progress on Lydia. I'm fully involved with her now, and won't get to Lexie until I'm happy with Lydia.

I'll need to go shop for tomatoes, Walmart has the freshest ones, and I generally get the ones on vines - small but tasty! I hadn't written tomatoes on my list because I'm very picky about them, so I'm glad Himself did my shopping this morning and didn't come home with any ooooold tomato!

We are supposed to have three clear days in a row without clouds, so I'm focusing today and tomorrow on painting. My nephew and his wife are taking me out to lunch on Thursday, so I will paint more in the afternoon then.

I got so tired of looking at how weak my painting of Lydia looked and put an Asphaltum background behind her today. I've also got the bottom of her hand, and her little finger, too fat, so I'm working on that now.

Do you suppose Sid and Jessica eloped today?:smug::lol:
