Marcia, I keep wondering if introversion is one of the characteristics of a developing artist? I have no troubles talking with these same classmates now, so I did learn some social skills. My father was born socially adept, I think, but my mother always envied her children -- she thought my sisters and I made friends easily. We didn't; it was just that when we made a friend, we kept close to those few friends forever.

Like we are here on the Oily Rag!

Nancy, thank you so much for your kindness about my painting.

I know, it is wonderful how he narrates the entire thing...and it started me with the habit of asking myself the same questions when I paint...

Yes!!! the original of the "Whee Whee!" piggy commercials.:D

Sandra, I cannot begin to know how bad you feel, but I know chronic pain is tiring and depressing on top of having your health compromised already. :(

But when we are feeling low, it's good to be reminded often, that your friends are here for you, even though we can't give more than moral support (and huge quantities of <<<health vibes!!!>>> of course!)

:wave:Hi, Sandra! One of the things about doing art is the process makes you forget the pain for a while! I'm hoping, praying, and sending such potent vibes to you as well for recovering your health! You're younger than both of my children, and you have got so many good reasons to live a healthier life: Family, and watching a beautiful granddaughter grow up. Joy in the arts: music, dancing, a loving spirit, and of course, art itself. Those great docs need to fix you up!

Consider yourself hugged and smooched! Forget the icons, I love ya, ya Dagg!

I do think it is the MMPI measures these things to evaluate personality types and I think it is an indicator..and when you think about it...art is a healthy way to communicate.

One of the things I noticed about what Dan Gerhartz said is that it's the artist that sees things so deeply...so richly. The artist in us wants to bring that depth of vision to others by communicating his observations about nature. I think it's almost an obligation to share the beauty we see with others. And it's the best payback in the world to see the face of someone we've touched that way the minute they see that particular piece of art that reaches them.

I wish I could have seen the face of that woman who bought my painting last week as she saw it and said she had to have it!:)

Yay for art supplies!

You can say that again-art supplies are perfect for celebrating a good doctor's visit. She gave me a clean bill of health as far as the diabetes was concerned. My glucose levels were down from 6.3 to 5.7. (Now if she can only find a cure for fibromylagia!

So after the appointment I went across the street to Michaels (sorry, it was close) and bought some paint. Glad I had a 40% off coupon too!

Does anyone think today's ad agencies even know what "honorable" means?

Oh, man! When they were taking my art down today, I ended up with one frame broken into two pieces, and two other frames dinged so much that I'll need to retouch them! And the man told me not to worry, the paintings weren't damaged! That's the last time I will exhibit there! (and in case I didn't use enough exclamation points: &*%$@*%^#!!!)

I only had one inquiry, and when that person was given the price, she disappeared.

It was for this one, which is a 30" x 40", one of the largest there.

I won't remember the place kindly. I've seen much better hospitals, too.

Meanwhile, I'm tired from carrying them in. I couldn't leave them in the car because I need to take my friend over to do her demo tonight, and she'll need some space for her paintings and her art supplies.

She's not used to seeing a clean house over here anyway... but I did want a little energy to do a little cleaning...:o

Becca, I signed a release holding them harmless for any damage, but I sign those with every art show I go to, and have never had a problem...

I intend to warn the people down on the Paseo how dangerous it is to hang there. It's making me have second thoughts about taking my stuff to the State Capitol for an exhibit...I haven't seen what their legal form looks like, but considering that most of the peeps in there are former lawyers, I have my reservations.

Doug, if I had to cut back on sugar, I think I would have either orange juice, or a piece of chocolate to celebrate a good count! I take my coffee black.

Sandra, I'm eager for you to start your painting, too! Since this will be another day without painting, I'm living vicariously!

How bloody wonderful-a total lack of respect for you, your art work and the artistic process. Not to mention an even larger lack of regard and respect for private property. I bet if they do this to very many of the displayed works that those artists don't have anything to do with them next year. Now that would be poetic justice.

:clap:Ah, a man after mine own heart! Dioxazine purple is one of my very favorites, too. It tones with white to make a really luscious warm gray, and the best thing is that you can make a really rich black from Dioxazine purple and Sap green.

I have some strong color preferences, but I use almost all the 80 colors of my paint collection. For limited palettes, I like WN Winton Sap green, Transparent red oxide (all of the transparent oxides really, but the red adapts to so many situations), Terra Rosa, Yellow Ochre, and Prussian Blue (also a color which covers a wide variety of uses) and Raw Umber. Of course lots of Titanium White. :D

It's interesting reading your interest in using 80 colours, then seeing others that swear that you only need RYB and white. To each their own, I guess.

Sounds like the computer sent the photo to the print spooler (queue) and for some reason it stayed there in hiding why-I have know idea.

You do know that you can check the printer status if you go to the control panel, then click on Devices and Printers, then click on the printer name, then click on "See what's printing" From there you can View, Pause Cancel or Restart your print job. Hope that helps.

Sid, I have a question for you about this palette....

I am deciding between ultramarine and cobalt for the blues...I don't think I need any extra deep blues...what do you think?
i would not need both, either one or the other, they are close enough to middle blue, you can add a little green like viridian, phthalo, or perm green lite to ultramarine and get a cobalt blue hue anyway.
Serrano's palette plein air palette is seven colors, aliz crimson, cad orange, cad yellow pale, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, phthalo green, burnt sienna.

Becca, you're right; I'm exhausted. My friend was so nervous when she came to my house I gave her some wine, and then took her out to eat. They had a really nice set-up for demos at the Art Guild, and everyone pitched in to make her comfortable. I sat in the front row so that she would be able to see me, and she did a very good demo of painting an onion, but later she asked me if her hands were trembling. I told her that I didn't see the faintest tremor, and only one of the best demos I had seen done. On the way home she said that was the hardest $100 she ever made. I told her the next one would be the easiest hundred she ever made!

She's exhausted and I'm exhausted. Himself just gave me a back rub, which I needed desperately. I'm still shocked about how cavalier they were about my frames when they had a padded dolly to haul them out with!

Tomorrow is going to be a Nancy painting day, and anyone who thinks not will have another think coming!

Doug, if I had to cut back on sugar, I think I would have either orange juice, or a piece of chocolate to celebrate a good count! I take my coffee black.

I have orange juice and plenty of fruit every day. Doc is fine for now with natural sugars, it's just exceess. Several months ago I cut out sugar in my tea and coffee, no desert except special occassions. Never did eat chocolate or junk food. My doc thinks that it is my bodies inability to efficiently process sugar that is to blame because I can't cut down much more. However, todays Blood Sugar reading of 5.7 is within the normal range. I'll take it.

Don't know too much about carbs, but they do include potatoes and bread, right? Both of which I cut out (potatoes) and reduced (bread). But there was no difference in energy level or sugar levels. My body had been operating at far less than peak efficiency the last 5 years because I have had a heart attack, quadruple heart bypass, fibromyalgia (and with it chronic fatigue syndrome) and now high sugar levels. Kathie, this first one was mine, and this one (http://mikewimmerportraits.com/photofolio/) is Mike Wimmer's. I hope this comes through, but if it just lands and his web page, click on the left where it says "3 personal" and the one he did of the same guy comes up. It might be a little too photographic for some people's taste, but I like the idea of having very completed parts along with very incomplete parts in a painting.

His work is amazingly realistic. I especially like the fantasy children's portraits.

Your portrait has a deft, painterly touch that I really like.

DougI had the student grade and I was just starting back into oils...they worked well for me at the time...locally artist grade paints aren't even availble in our stores...but after useing WN artist grade, I wasn't as pleased with the consistancy of the studen grade..but they would mix like any other paint...probably have a lower pigment load.

I picked up a tube of Georgian Venetian Red a couple of weeks ago just because my BFF Sid likes it, that's saying something because I normally do not buy student paint... but I like my Gamblin better and i could see an obvious difference in pigment load. The color between the 2 is the same. The Georgian might be easier to control just because it is much weaker...venetian red is a very strong color typically.**

**synthetic. the natural venetian red is more transparent.

Thanks, Marcia, very soulful tune. I hadn't thought about Peter Wolf for ages. I had to think who he was, then I remembered-J. Geils Band "Full House":cool:

And sweet Shelby-Queen of the honky tonks, but oh so soulful. She sings it like she means it, and that's good enough for me.

There's another blonde-middle age Texas country rock lady that's real good, but I can't for the life of me remember her name! I seem to recall that she came up with some Texas singer-songwriter types like Townes Van Zandt and Joe Ely.
