View Full Version : Two Cranes
01-27-2012, 12:37 AM
This is my latest painting, whose title I am still unsure of, but it is of two Sandhill Cranes. I believe the one in the foreground to be the youngster of the parent in the background. We are having a juried show this spring in which the theme is 'Cranes'. I do not do much wildlife art but thought this might be a fun change from what I have been painting recently. My wife and I went out one day in what we thought was going to be a fruitless attempt to find a crane to photograph and was overwhelmed when we came upon this duo! We took a ton of photos and decided on this composition.
It is 16"x20" Acrylic on Canvas. All C&C is welcome!

03-06-2012, 02:39 AM
Nice photo. Where's your painting?
OK seriously, everything has been covered here. Excelent technical skill. Nice composition as well. I really like the vertical grasses compared to the rounded feathers, these patterns together remind me of the elegant, stylized posters from the 1900s. Color choices, the blues and yellows compliment each other so well. Cranes show - I'll bet you'll take 1st.

Thank you again for all the nice comments! I was surprised to see this thread show up again. The show went quite well and had a lot of nice paintings juried in, but unfortunately this painting was passed over for any awards. It did sell however, as well as another of mine, so I didn't leave disappointed. Thank you again for the positive feedback!

Happy to hear of your success. The color and composition really struck me in this piece. Pleasantly, it also left me with the feeling I had been viewing a Japanese painting. Beautiful. :)
