I just recieved my new cretacolor pastels. Should I break them in three or in half?

I break mine in half. With my Nupastels I score them with an Xacto knife...and then they break really easily. If I need a sharp edge after I break them, I will break them again. But, I don't use the end with the number on it, so I know when I am low on a color.

Have fun with your pastels...they are addicting...and WONDERFUL!!!

I find that most are broken inside the wrapper already! Or I just break them with the wrapper on and let half fall out of the wrapper. I like to keep half sticks in my box because I can have a larger variety of color that way.

Nancy,
I never would have thought of the exacto knife trick. I am glad you mentioned it. That is what I'll do. Thank you.

Smudger,
:D

Carly,
Thank you for the reply.

I just got a box of Nupastels, and found myself breaking them in thirds, just because I mainly use them for lines and edges and some detailing, the seem to be easier to hold.:)

GOSH... my hard pastels are all in tact.
The soft ones are just right.
I think I wouldn't break them because I keep looking for the same ones over and over.
BUT you should see my wacko drawing style...
Mine break when I either drop them or try to grind them into pieces in the wooden box I have with no pads to keep them from shifting.
