Blue, happy thanksgiving to you too! :-D

Derek, happy new year to you!

Well, it is same procedure as last year, and the year before that, and before that. I'll eat my hat if any of the posts reappear.

But, it could be worse, all of WC was once down for... was it two weeks? Server change. So this is an improvement!

Deborah Secor
01-10-2012, 05:45 PM
Agreed, Charlie. I think 'they aren't gone and will reappear' may be the party line. One of the Admins just mentioned "an incompetent techie". This is surely student work!

I'm just testing to see if i can post at all! I just made two posts in the spotlight and neither of them are appearing! Maybe I'm up there in cyberspace with all the missing threads!

I posted in Spotlight, and I can't see my post, but in the main forum, mine is listed as the last.

I think it will be a while before things works...

but, yay! I saw some recovered missing posts!

Edit: the only difference seems to be that Goal Post and Spotlight are over 4 pages long, and this thread is three pages as I type.

Ruthie57
01-12-2012, 03:11 PM
Hmm, so when this thread goes over 4 pages maybe it, too, will be stuck on page 4!

Ruthie57

And now more posts have disappeared off the end of the spotlight! Hope Don saved the lesson! It's as if it's being eaten away by some sort of cancer.......

There's service, and then there's Service! I just got a bona fide email notification from my website provider, telling me they'll do Maintenance, quote:

Notice of Schedule Maintenance

We have maintenance scheduled at the time listed above.
Our data center is migrating a piece of our infrastructure to a faster, more advanced data center. We have no control over the timing of this maintenance. The ONLY issues we expect are degraded image uploads (slower processing) and possibly intermittent problems with our Facebook app.
YOUR WEBSITE AND THE xxxx CONTROL PANEL WILL BE FULLY OPERATIONAL.
However, unless you absolutely must, it would probably be advisable to upload images before or after the time period of the maintenance.
We apologize in advance if this causes any inconvenience.
Sincerely,
The xxxx Support Team

I feel like a valued customer, which I am. As opposed to feeling like a product sold to advertisers.

Edit: I could just see page 5 of GoalPost, but as it is past that, I couldn't see the rest.

LOL yep! (hiding my cleaver behind my back)!

Yep. I figured out if the posts were underground looking at them from underneath would show them, and it worked! Purr. Ari hopped into my lap and purred too glad the threads are moving again.

The worst part was the Catch-22... I posted the instructions several times but since they were underground posts you had to understand them in order to see them. Didn't realize that until I'd done it more than once. Glad they got it sorted out though. Whew!

Site back up more or less, posts appearing when posted, scanner installed on computer in use again... maybe now I can paint with my normal conditions re-established! Hope there isn't some new and creative glitch from the site gremlins angry at the maintenance... watch, tomorrow I'll log on and Charlie will translate for everyone because all Engilsh language posts turn into Swedish...

robertsloan2

Right, we can always fall back on the pictures. Colour is a universal language. Yes, I'm falling out of American into English again, it's slightly contagious...

Robert's cleaver is popping up here and there. Dr Charlie Freud is certain it is because of repressed emotional reactions regarding the archetype parental removal of the usual playing ground. Harumph.

:-D

Languages are fascinating! And it certainly helps communication, but it is amazing how far you can get with a vocabulary of 20 words and being able to count to 10. The rest is gestures, mime, and big smiles. But after a while that gets extremely frustrating, as one is thrown into the role of an extremely clever 18 month old child just learning to talk. The adult mind craves so much more.

Scottish isn't all that easy... and I mean what is supposed to be The Queen's English, not gaelic. Some words are pure Viking, like 'bairn' for child.

(and I bet you were dying to read all that... LOL! Seems I'm slightly tangential today...)

Dcam

Easy for me Charlie, I was born there.
"Aye, ye're a bonnie Lassie" "Ye're a' richt".
A lot of the Scottish comes from German as well.
Scots say richt for right and richtig is the German.
Cheerio, Derek
