Todd Lockwood (http://www.toddlockwood.com/) & Donato Giancola (http://www.donatoart.com/) - you can *not* go wrong with either of them.

Todd works exclusively digital these days, though his earlier stuff is oils.

Danoto is all oils.

Frank Frazetta

For me it has to be Frank Frazetta. I've liked a few others, but no one else really paints like Frazetta with his solid energy filled figures leaping out of the page.

Boris Vallejo

Boris originally inspired me to pick up the paint brush back in the early 90's. His fantasy art techniques book got me interested in art again, mostly with his looser 70's style. I'm not so keen on his tight polished newer paintings.

I really like traditional old masters techniques and don't care much for digital art at all which is probably why there arent more that I'd mention as a huge influence. There are quite of those that I would consider fantasy art, it's only in this century that fantasy (previously imaginative painting) has been pooped on by the establishment.
