This is my first post on WetCanvas so please go easy on me :) Iím finding it hard to find known artist that use OP as their main medium. OP are new to me Iíve only just started to experiment and sample with them. I have to do some research for a college project to document current trends within the Oil Pastel medium. Can anyone point me in the right direction for any contemporary artists that are known for OP drawings/paintings? Thanks in advance.

Pat and I. (sorry couldn't resist that  )

The Kentucky Muse (Mary Ann Currier) was a featured PBS artist.

You can click on the link at the bottom of my post, in my signature line for the Oil Pastel Society. You can go from my page into the society menu and look up the professional members and distinguished members. I'm not sure how many are nationally prominient but they are well known in pastel circles and some such as Bill Cheevy are well known in New York circles.

Hundreds of years ago many artists made their own oil pastels to use on field trips but kept their formulas secret. (Years ago I also did some research on the subject but no names come immediately to mind)

I modern times Picasso approached Sennelier and asked them to create a professional grade of oil pastels for him. The Japanese had a student grade of oil pastels for many years prior to this time.

Good luck on your research. We in the oil pastel forum would be interested in reading your report. Let us know if you post it to an electronic media when finished.

This is all you could come up with hal?

head over to the oil pastel society and take a look at the last show.
You will find what you are looking for amongst the many fine and outstanding artists that make up the society.

This video is inspiring. Currier doesn't seem to use any blending tools except a cloth, nor any under painting. Does anyone know what type of surface she uses for her OPs?

Really great video on Mary Currier, I highly recommend watching if you ever want a whole lot of inspiration. I don't know what surface she is using, it is paper of some sort.
