Here is my latest painting. I am finding that the more paintings I do from life, the easier is gets to get the drawing down on the paper. I don't worry as much now about getting everything exactly where it should be. I am not talking about big differences, just not the exact shape or position. Before, I would have panicked over the rinds of the wedges. Now I just put down the shape I see and it looks believable. Practice, practice, practice. So, when I look at this painting, I know the plate isn't perfect, but not bad for freehand. It feels liberating.:D

I gave myself a challenge with this painting by cutting the fruit up. More textures and planes. This is painted on 8 x 10 UArt 400 grit paper with a variety of soft pastels. Of course, it was painted from life.

Thanks for looking. I welcome all c & c.

 Consider yourself liberated Doug! I don't think many of us could draw a perfect shape without putting in some form of structural guidelines -so you did well! I like the contrasting complementary colours as well!

Deirdre- lol Thanks. I think this is my 32nd painting or small sketch in the past two months. I guess that helps a bit.

Good job Doug, I would not worry about the drawing that will come with practice but if you try to get it spot on right now you will waste time better spent with the pastels.
