View Full Version : Space Shuttle Discovery

Back in March of this year, I was commissioned to do a painting of the Space Shuttle Discovery as a gift for one of the Astronauts that was on board the shuttle for it's last mission before it's retirement. I was told that the painting wasn't due until December, so I have been working on it bit by bit over the year. I am so glad to finally have it done as it has been weighing heavy on my mind since agreeing to do it. It was full of challenges but I am pretty happy with the final painting. One of the things that I wanted to emphasis slightly in this painting was a feeling of age to the Shuttle. It has flown 39 missions in 27 years and deserves retirement!

15"x30" Acrylic on Canvas. All C&C welcome and appreciated!

This is spectacular, a fitting tribute to the space program, and all who worked so hard thru the years to keep these incredible machines spaceworthy.

Wow, I thought this was the reference photo until I zoomed in. Absolutely fabulous. The scaffolding alone would have driven me batty. What a wonderful tribute. I think the aging on the shuttle gives it plenty of character and life.
