View Full Version : Brock (Yep, another Aussie!)

After the excitement of the last week and a bit and figured I should pop this one up. (For anyone who missed it, three of my dogs have been in emergency care after mycotoxin poisoning and there was some question of if they'd survive or if they did it would be with neurological and liver damage.) The girls are all recovering nicely (my wallet otoh...) and I'm working on getting back into the headspace to paint/post.

Quickie sketch
The rough, scrubbed in. I think the ruff actually looks better here. It's overworked in the final.

Here is the finished study:
As you can see from the reference photo, it's not perfect by a country mile but I figure if I push I'm going to loose the 'suggesting rather than painting every little last detail' effect I'm trying to loosen up with.

Nicely done.

Amanda I'm glad your girls are on the road to recovery - how awful for them.
Your study turned out really well. I am just amazed at the beautiful coat on your dog. She is collie crossed with??? Gorgeous!

Thanks guys! :) Yes I am SO glad my girlies are okay, my dogs are my life!

Jayde, this one isn't mine although mine are also Australian Shepherds like him. Brock is of one of my friends in our breed club and when he's not chilling out at home or trying to charm treats out of you he's one of the top winning dogs in Australia so I certainly wouldn't have minded if he were mine though. ^_^

I love the sense of movement and life you captured here. One happy dog!

Brock's coat is stunning - I'm not surprised he's one of the top winning dogs. I had a quick look at your blog Amanda and your girls are gorgeous too!

Thanks Nayana, Margaret, Linda and of course Jayde!

The colour is blue merle, quite common in the breed. They also come in red merle (liver-red and cinnamon-sugar where the black and blue are), red or black self (solid), bi (either white or copper) and tri (with white and copper). And just for flavor we can have brown eyes, blue eyes, one of each or marbled ones. ;)

Thanks Chammi,
I'm so I've already started on another two. ~_~ Both will be more detailed ones though, not such quick studies. I can't help myself!
