It is a horrible thought, a world without books or magazines or newspapers would seem very strange. It must cost more to produce an audio book, judging by their prices, so maybe not. Maybe the words will be downloaded into our brains...

I do dream of having a Kindle though.

Jess has one! My husband is such a bibliophile that he doesn't even like the idea of Kindle. I would love to have one, too!

Do you s'pose in the far (or maybe not so far) future, we will have a whole population of people who feel pity for us because we had to learn to read? Right now we've got Kindle

I     my kindle. Kindle is for people who love to read, it is in no way a buffer to make it "easier". Rols you should get one, the price has come down a lot. They are absolutely worth it. I have had mine for almost 2 years and I still use it constantly.

I am still using my old 2nd generation Kindle, it works great, and also I can't find a leopard print cover for the newer models. :( So I'm staying with my old kindle until it dies, hopefully that won't be for a long time.

Nance, like your husband I was really, really resistant to them for a long time. Then I had to honestly confront my space issue......which meant either not reading :( or going digital for stuff I don't care about having physical copies of like most novels. i will always get cookbooks and art books in paper, but I have blown through so many books I otherwise wouldnt have read.

Plus, every day there is the kindle daily deal...where they offer a book for a 24 hour reduced price of .99. :D

Sandra, I will check your video out soon..I just stopped on my painting while ago and I am fixing dinner.

Jessica..how is your swap painting?

here is my painting from today...I may need to tweak it...I can't see any more. my husband hates it, but he hated the ref photo too.

Trying to work with those cool colors again...esp blue, i can see a thing or two that probably needs attention.

Hi Rolina!

Hi Nancy!

Jessica, I have been temped to try a kindle just to see if it is friendlier to my eyes....but at the same time I understand..a book is so amazing just being a book.

stapeliad
11-27-2011, 05:51 PM
Beccs I really like it. I mean that. It is very cold, but I don't mind that, it has a nice mood to it, and you have a very nice style coming through. The onliest thing that bugs me a teeny bit is the darkest value in the middle of the flower. It detracts from your face and i wish it was much lighter. That's all though, I think you did a beautiful job. :grouphug:

!becca
11-27-2011, 05:54 PM
Thank you, Jessica, you are right the darkest dark is the center of the flower. Will think about that.:D

stapeliad
11-27-2011, 05:54 PM
Beccs Kindle is very eye-friendly which is one reason why i like it so much. I don't miss carrying around novels. not at all.

stapeliad
11-27-2011, 05:55 PM
Beccs the focal point of the darkest dark/contrast would be so perfect where the flower meets your eye. If that flower value is lightened you'd have it so perfect.

11-27-2011, 05:58 PM
It is great, Becca, I do love the colours you have used, they have a lot of impact. I would prefer the flower to be less dominant, perhaps lighter in tone and fuzzier?

Love the shadows and the composition and your eyes in this selfie. It needs a cowboy hat, though, lol!

Jessica, I am waiting to see if the Kindles come down even more after the Christmas rush is over. I might get one in the January sales.

Nancy, if there was a free and easy way to plop all my books onto a kindle and reduce my huge library, I would be very happy, think of the space you would save (storage for canvases and frames, in Becca's case, lol)!

!becca
11-27-2011, 05:59 PM
Thanks, I will try that, when I take out my contacts. I will be able to see again then.:)
So true about novels...and we can always buy books that are special.

Wow Becca, thats a really great SP, very expressionistic. You have a very identifiable style (envy, envy) but are never predictable. Sorry, but husbands opinions sometimes have to be disregarded.

Yes, I've used Swiffers in the US and we ought to have them here too, we have things that are similar but not nearly as good.

Books and the written word will always exist IMnotsoHO. I dont think we will turn largely verbal, and in fact the marvels of this computer age is that information and education that can make a huge difference to peoples standard of lviing, in third world countries for example will mean more people will need to read. Translation programs probably work better with the written word although I have no facts to back that up, its just a thought.

I fancy a kindle but would like an iPad even more. I mainly only read art books, the paper and the internet these days - not sure thats very healthy. I only read novels when I am on holiday and havent had many of those for a few years.

Hi Jessica and Carey, glad to see you are ok and Zebras, kids and neighbours are all behaving themselves.

Sandra, you have such a handsome son, and talented too.

Its my bedtime now - sweet dreams to you all and I'll catch up with you in the week.

Turrah :)

I've managed a bit more painting on my swap today, really want it finished as I have another one to do before Christmas.

Hey, this is funny:

Ugly Renaissance Babies! (http://uglyrenaissancebabies.tumblr.com/)

They look like alien creatures, don't they? I feel sorry for artists back then; there was no way to make babies stay still for any length of time unless they were unconscious. I have a feeling that the best ones were painted from sleeping babies.

I thought the running commentary between each image was more disgusting than the distorted infants were.

Becca, is this your blue period?:D

I just started a rose tonight for another 4"x 4" and it's not as red as I thought I had it...I think tomorrow I'll add some magenta, or use my perylene red. I just quit working tonight so it's still shiny wet. My deadline has to be tomorrow night to allow at least two days' drying time before I deliver it.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/28-Nov-2011/203830-Red_Rose.jpg

The crafts can wait, because they don't need any drying time! And I think I'll charge $12 for those little totes, instead of $9.50. I'm not sure I'm going to take the coasters, because i dropped one into the cats' water bowl*, and it doesn't dry very fast!

*Not on purpose; I'm a good servant!:o

Most of my blues are staining colors and I have to be careful with them! It is hard to clean up, and it takes forever to get all the blue out of your brushes. If you use any white brushes like I do, you end up with blue-stained brushes even after they're as cleaned as they can get!

!becca

Oh I had such a fright this morning...didnt sleep well because I went to sleep too late, had a headache, and was worried about waking up this morning...havent been into the office since Wednesday, how is it time to go back already?
I had a dream Dana yelled at me twice publicly for posting birthday thread posts  then while I was getting ready for work feeling upset some dude was knocking on my door at oh-god thirty ayem wanting to talk about venetian red...

then I woke up for real...
and went to give my cat her Prozac and she wouldnt wake up or move and she felt cold. Oilies, i seriously thought for about 30 seconds that my kitty had passed away during the night. :crying:

Then the stupid beast finally woke up and looked at me like "What's your problem?" She ate her prozac and has already fallen asleep again.

I hope this has not set the tone for the rest of the day.

I have to go get ready for work now.

Becc on the subject of blues...yes a lot of them do stain badly but I seem to find myself 90% of the time using plain old french ultramarine, which being a translucent pigment does NOT stain badly. It is my workhorse blue and I could never do without it. I do have a bunch of other blues :D but only use them occasionally.

Good morning Oilies!

Between sanding all afternoon and 3 T-Giving dinners in 3 days, I fell asleep at 8:30 last night! And my eyes are burning - I think from the sanding. My back isn't sore but a little stiff, so I have the heating pad on it while I drink my morning coffee.

I don't think I'll sand the lower shelves today because I'd have to be bent over. Since my post office keeps very short hours and it was a holiday, I haven't checked mail in almost a week, I am hoping for some goodies!

I am debating about starting a certain painting; I like the subject and the photo is usable, but I am not sure if it will make a good painting. However, if I wait until I get a chance to take a better picture, it may be a long time. Should I post it here and get some feedback? In the Rag or start a new thread?

Mmmmmm, soup!

I am sorting through pictures of the spanish/guypsy guitarist and violinist right now, and I'll post the picture I am debating later, because it is on the computer in the studio.

I think part of my reluctance is the nagging feeling I should be doing the local landscapes, animals, and 'small stuff' because it is more salable. I know I will not be able to resist also starting the spanish/gypsy ones too. My mind and my heart are pulling me in different directions!

!becca
11-28-2011, 11:24 AM
I use Carey's recipe with the tomato soup, but I sweat the onions and add about a half glass of wine and simmer it..then I add chicken stock and the ravioli. After that cooks, I add the tomato soup and a spoonful of cream cheese...it could be all vegatatian with a little more wine and no stock. I have made it that way too..oh i add italian seasoning to the onions and wine...it smells wonderful together.:)

I am glad you are getting paint for christmas...it is only right. As soon as I print my postage today, i will study my frame situation.:D

11-28-2011, 11:26 AM

Yay for new paint!!

I took pictures of the rooster sketches I did on my birthday. (My watercolor is really *not* this vibrant, I really disappointed myself with how I used too much water yet again, but I figured what the heck might as well make it look nice on the screen.) Each of the roosters had a blue plastic barrel to call home.

Sid, I have a question. I found this box that is really heavy and so would not be so good for carrying around for plein air (maybe around the yard if I somehow got the impulse) but I thought it might be nice for a little painting station that keeps things together which I could use around the house. It even fits my phone book in the bottom.

It's got a little thing in the top part that angles out which has a palette (or there is space I can slide my palette perfectly in there) and it has another slot I guess I could put a panel there or something. I like it, and the box lid will stay up like this, but with kids and dogs around I am worried about it slamming shut and also with that contraption there in the lid, I don't know how to secure my painting there. I know there's a kind of hardware I could get for the outside of the box to keep it open more securely (no idea what it's called, but I bet you know what I mean), but any ideas on how to keep paintings from just falling over? I don't mind just sitting the bottom of the painting on the bottom of the box, leaning it back on the lid, but I'd like to rig something up so that it will not just fall forward willy nilly. But I don't have any ideas for that.

Carey, what an odd farm that rooster farm is.:D But you have some beautiful sketches from it.

I ave always wondered, how do you sweat onions? Anyway, you recipe sounds delish!

Carey, I love your roosters and I like the paintbox!

I am hoping the mounting bracket for my big tripod comes today so I can experiment with FrankenEasel, Jr.

11-28-2011, 11:38 AM
Becca, I know! It really startled me seeing it suddenly...my first reaction was that it was a paintball field  then I saw the birds and thought, wait, is that a paintball field for people to shoot turkeys??  Then I realized they were roosters and that those must be rooster houses.

There are hardward stores online now..
That would require knowing the name of the part, or at least figuring out where it would be listed. :p The home improvement store seems to be a frequent stop for us, anyway.

I am considering just tying a string around the lid and my painting to keep my painting from falling over...not sure that would work so well, though. :p

That ravioli soup sounds good. I would make a few changes...use vegetable broth, remove the tomato broth and cream cheeze...add spinach, some diced tomatoes, garlic and onion...oh my gosh i might have to go home and try this...

Marcia, onions (and other veggies like celery and carrots) are "sweated" by sauteing them in olive oil for a few minutes before the other ingredients are added. It brings more of their flavor out.

Ah. Okay, I always do that anyway. Last night I sautéed onions and garlic, added italian spices, kalamata olives, and diced fresh tomatoes; sautéed that, then crumbled some gorgonzola, minced fresh basil, and then put it all on some steamy hot thin spaghetti. Probably my favorite fast dish. Sounds complicated, but it only takes about 15 minutes to make, including uncorking the chianti.:)

sandra your son is good with the guitarr ,what did you mean your swapie left the building? . that aching dosent sound good, think i heard about it before but dont remeber in what context
nancy i think that is quite good thing in a marriage..heard it before from a relative who stayed married until they died, a lovley tea , and yes i will pick a recipe for you but there are so many diffrent ways, it is far to easy to get them to dry, and they are a really good complement to glogg (mulled vine). nancy looks like a rose but might need some more red, but they often are more orange like before they reach full bloom
carey how fun to get another birthday gift, looks like a nice watercolor to easy to push the mud in wc the wrong way.. your drawing of the rooster is perfect

Thanks Sandicat, it does seem like just an obstruction that would be a bore to paint!
I had asked earlier today whether I should even paint this one, or wait until I have a chance at a better picture of him. That may be a long ways off though, if it happens at all. It's also hard if I have some emotional attachment to the subject, whether or not to do it.

Marcia, this will be such an outstanding portrait to paint -- go for it! One of the things I have to remember is that I would be in a different field if I were working for money. Since every artist I know of any depth makes art for the love of it, go with your gut and paint this guy.

And you can make room to feed your other gut by knocking out some small paintings for living expenses. I just found out that a couple of the other gallery artists are charging $12.50 apiece for their 2"x 2" Christmas tree ornament paintings! So the prices on my cherubs are going up accordingly. And I will price the totes at $18.00 each. And hope we're not pricing ourselves out of making sales!

Loved your recipe for dressing the thin spaghetti; it's one of my favorite meals, too, but I'm generally in such a hurry I just pour on some Ragu and some shredded mozzarella.

Björn, you're right, our "apartness" makes our few "togetherness" times more worthwhile!

Sandra, it's very easy to see flaws in others' work, and to see flaws in their reasoning. Dedication comes with a stronger degree of responsibility, but some people on Wet Canvas are very prickly peeps! I think to get kicked off WC you would have to offend the moderators very deeply, and if you just offend an occasional fool here and there, you're safe!

We both know someone who got himself banned, but you tend to build artists up more often than tear them down! I learned early on not to give a critique to an artist who didn't want one.

Jess, now I have to look into those colors! The way you dedicate yourself to one thing for a long period, and then to another, probably boosts your education far more than my hit and miss method of doing a plein air here, and a portrait there, and a still life when I can't do either of the former.

But those colors sound so good for portraiture, which is my first love! Happy Portraiture Year!

Becca, many years ago I would have tried your lasagne soup - it sounds magnificent - but I seldom invest that much effort into cooking anymore. I used to be a very good cook, until I married my former husband.

He loved to cook, and even cooked a big batch of Beef Bourgignon for our wedding reception! When his mother came to live with us later on, he and she would get into arguments about which one of them got to cook the holiday dinners! I was famed for some ordinary stuff, like chili, stuffed green peppers, omelets, bread and such...but I was in a family of Chefs!:D

Then I married Himself, and the only day he eats at home is on Christmas day, when nothing else is open for dining! Makes my time at the stove minimal, and most women I know are offended at the idea. I'm not, because I know his reasoning - after many years of eating out as a bachelor, he was used to going out, and ordering whatever he felt like having at that moment. And I'm freed up from one household responsibility - to make art, and to write!

Man, how I do rattle on when I get autobiographical!

But since they promise shipment within 24 hours, I have to order it later, when it's more Christmassy around here!

My goodness, Becca, is it back ordered? I will be moving this from my wish list to my buy list in a few days, but it's the Rublev from Natural Pigments.

My pricing has everything to do with sales. I feel so bad that I've only sold one piece since I've been there, and that was this summer - long time no sale! Also, strangely, I don't mind pricing my paintings higher, but I consider these things to be in the crafts family, and I don't have that guarantee of lasting quality in them that I do have in my paintings.

My canvas finally got dry enough for me to sign it, so when I get time tomorrow, I'll take pictures of my cherubim, totes, bigger paintings I'm taking for the December show, and the two 4"x 4"s.

Now I'm getting rid of all the crafts clutter...it is all so in the way of everything in this crowded house. I would be looking for one tool and it would be buried under old jeans or pockets or trim or other tools or fabric or feathers or butterflies ... well - that gives you a general picture of why I don't want to get into the crafts business!

It just feels so good to get out from under all this!:D

I have a doctor appointment tomorrow, and several other things to take care of, so I won't be around very often.

I'm going to sleep now, and hope I don't sleep around the clock like I've been doing!

Good night, and all of you have good dreams, please!

Hi everyone,

I am off work again today and I have just been for a lovely walk (in the wind and rain, lol), followed by a major asthma attack, so I am sitting down reading WC and having a cup of coffee while I wait for the shakes to subside.

After a run to the shops to get some essentials, I shall paint - yay!

ArtyRolina

Jessica - what a lovely portrait and in such a short time - amazing! Your new paint colours look lovely, I particularly love the green earth colours.

Becca, I would cancel that primer order. Your selfie is lovely - consider it done!

Nancy, I love the rose painting.

Carey, your rooster studies are gorgeous!

Marcia, I think that image will make a great painting, taking out the mic and boom and perhaps the thing behind his head would improve it greatly. The colours on the guitar are a bit puzzling is it half wood/half painted? That will need some clever work to make it make sense!

Nancy, like you I seem to be in hibernation mode lately, it is surprising to me the hours I am sleeping.

Morning everyone!

Nance, Sandra, Rols, thanks! No, I am not doing any more to her, it was just meant to be a quickie study. I need to do a lot more of these. Rols I used natural earth pigments from Maimeri that I got a while ago, this isn't my new paint...that will be opened at Christmas.

I really dig those earth greens too. :D

Good morning!

Jessica, wow, in an hour? That is very impressive, I like it muchly. :D

Becca, exciting about the possible news from the author...it really should be coming about, I think. I wish you'd had that video camera available, too. I'm so glad you got my little package...I've been meaning to send it for forever. :D

Marcia, I definitely think you should paint that reference.

And

Eureka! Lid support:

So from there I would google that term and see what happens
Yay, thank you, Becca and Marcia. :D

Jessica,
carey, your watercolor is wonderful despite what you think...
That's exactly why I edited it that way. :p Yes, my paper zebra loves living under the zebra tree. :D

Rolina, I'm sorry for your troubles today, surely it will get better with paint, though!

I spent a lot of time yesterday working on the front panel for my bag, it is close to being ready so I can get the rest of it going, hopefully I will get to show you later today. I am very excited about it.

Thanks Rolina. The thing behind his head is an electric meter, but much more easily painted out than the mic boom, although I have started to rough in the underpainting and I think i have successfully eliminated that.

Carey! I got your package yesterday, thank you!

Unfortunately there is a family emergency back home, so I may not be posting much or even keeping up with the Rag for awhile. I probably won't be able to watch the DVD until next week either, I just wanted to let you know that I got it.

Rolina I forgot to respond to your question about the color of the guitar. It's a sunburst and I've already done one before:
http://www.geigarts.com/Geig_Site/Archives_files/7389_42k.jpg

I read somewhere that for awhile in the 60s, there was a superstition that that finish changed to tone of the guitar and musicians would have it sanded off and refinished.

Rolina, those are wonderful! What moods they have, so very dramatic! And nice colors! :D

Here is the panel I have been working on for my bag. The panel is 9x12 and will fit on the front of a taller piece and will wrap around to the sides. I had initially intended to do something much more abstract...I am not good at abstract design. I am frankly pretty amazed that I managed to get all this done on my sewing machine. It was a little maddening because, due to the detailed nature of the stitches, after every stitch I had to thread a needle and take the thread to the other side to tie off. That often took far longer to do than the actual stitches! It was driving me crazy, but I was not going to go to all this effort just to have stitches fall out somewhere down the road.

When I first had the white zebra shape and shadow on the background without any stitching, my husband saw it and thought I was making a flag. You know, the type of banner I would have someone carry into battle for me.  He thinks I should make a larger version of this to hang up, who knows, maybe I will. :D

First I think I need to make Scarlett a bag after this one, a year old and she already loves to carry around purses.

I bought a tube of williamsburg viridian a little while back, and when I used it I thought the consistency was terrible...stiff and pasty...so I contacted WB support (they are wonderful btw) and they sent me a replacement tube which is fine. I also happen to be agreeable to sending my weird tube back, so they can look at it though they didn't require me to do this.

I put the tube in a little williamsburg paint box and put that in a flat rate priority envelope.

The post office rejected it on the grounds of "not being allowed to change the shape of the envelope."

What happened to if it fits it ships ® ? (https://www.prioritymail.com/flatrates.asp)

You may have noticed that, since I didn't want to drive any more nails into my wall, I dragged some images into others to condense the space (there are some ragged shadow edges!).

Marcia, things like that happen in families, and I hope your visit is comforting to those most directly affected. We'll miss you!:o:grouphug:

Sid, thank you!:D Be careful that your basic niceness doesn't show too much ... but then again, it's coming on Christmas, so it's best not to be too naughty!

Rolina, your paints are so lovely! And so is your painting! It is counter-intuitive, isn't it, that slow and sure gets boring, but fast and loose appeals? Fast and loose isn't as easy as it looks! Your inner confidence is beginning to show, and it's all for the better. The only way I seem to be fast is if I know I only have a limited time period to paint, or I'm outdoors with light changes happening! But it does look much fresher, and more powerful, emotional!

I'm thinking precision and freedom should coordinate in paintings, but I always have a hard time doing it!:p

Becca, I was lucky enough to get Jeni in the portrait swap last year, and I love not only what she did for me, but what she's doing for you! It's beautiful! And the one you're sending to her is beautiful, too! Last year we had a hard time exchanging paintings, I guess because France and the U.S. have different delivery rules and systems. It took until January before we each had the other's painting!

Sandicat, I want to see your stuff, but I can't find where you've posted it! Or have you posted it?

Jess, are you back working on your swap yet, or is it still too wet? I loved the hour study you did. It's a trick combining our conservative and liberal sides in painting to achieve both integrity and freedom.:D

I've spent the 45 minutes looking through (Suniskell) LLawrence's blog, and the painting he made called "At Ivy Ranch" is from the reference library -- and I've been painting it myself whenever I get time!

There is no way mine is going to look as good as his. For one thing, I changed the face, and there's no telling how many other changes I will decide to make in it.

I need to ask: would it be rude of me to post that painting on Wet Canvas when I finish it? I'm very taken by the S-shape composition and I intend to paint it for my pleasure, but I do NOT want to rain on anyone else's parade!

!becca

Nancy, if the ref is from the ref library, I don't see that there is a problem...WC itself is testiment to the fact that there can be many great artists together. We each do things a little alike, yet in our own way. As another artist once said to me...we are all just standing on each others shoulders.

I am pretty sure that even here they hibernate because my neighbors have mentioned it and they should know, but I suppose not all of them might, or else they won't til January, and who knows maybe they get woken up or something. (Gavin and the dogs are loud enough to wake anyone.)

Right now, I guess technically my modem is a zombie.

Carey, that is what I get for living so far away from tech services...then again, if I weren't out here I probably wouldn't be on satellite.
I be Gavin and the dogs do get things rolling around there.:D

Perhaps, but I've lived in town and used the largest providers before with the same exact service...two to four weeks to get anything accomplished when it only takes them ten minutes.

You should give us all the phone number and then we'll call to complain about how necessary you are here.

At this moment I am totally stressed about mailing my portrait swap. I decided to print online, it cost $30 and I need more supplies for the label...which I didn't know until I printed it...and I can't take online labels to the post office, but I will have to go to the post office for supplies.:(

I hope this day starts improving soon.

Ok, I have recovered from the surprise...it will work.:)

Becca! Just make sure it doesn't eat your brains!

Know what I was thinking about for the only dinner I get to cook all year? Something for me, since Himself doesn't like onions: Green Bean Casserole. I know it's pretty standard fare for holiday dinners, but I haven't had any in ages and I've always loved it! I think I'll make corn on the cob, too...by the time I've figured out everything I want to eat for Christmas dinner, I'll need twice as many burners, and another oven!

Maybe I'll make something special for Himself, too. If he could ever figure out what he likes best. I'll make bread, of course, and he loves that!

Meanwhile, I need to do some grocery shopping today, and I may just stock up on fried onions and green beans!

Becc, if you aren't able to stay in touch online, how will you be able to think out loud, like I just did?:p

Nancy, your holiday plans sound great! I haven't planned that far ahead yet.

Becc, if you aren't able to stay in touch online, how will you be able to think out loud, like I just did?I won't...I am hoping that some how things have been resolved remotely.

I feel your pain Becca, I had satellite for a few years, until my friend Matt set up a wireless internet service out here. It doesn't sound like their service has improved much. One would think they could just overnight you a modem, you could plug it in and and they could do the rest remotely.

Paul, I am glad to hear from you, I was a little concerned because you have had a major illness and haven't checked in lately. Sorry you got sick over Thanksgiving - I am flying home tomorrow and packing the hand sanitizer!

Marcia, thanks for the nice thoughts. I just did a drawing on canvas of a blues guy playing guitar, but I don't have the detail that you have.

Becca, feeling much better today, still have the damn cough.

Sandra, I am having fun with her. She is a glass and metal artist, beautiful stuff she creates.

Hi everyone, I have had a dreadful day at work and it only got worse when I got home.

My neighbour was getting the remaining puppy (Gillie) out of her car (she takes him to work) and he caught sight of a rabbit he just wanted to chase and he disappeared. I heard their shouts and went out to join in the search. Unfortunately, we found him minutes later, having been knocked down on the road and he passed away soon after. We are very, very sad, he was a lovely puppy and we all adored him :(

Jessica, I have just visited your portrait and I think it is wonderful - what a well painted portrait and your interpretation is superb - I bet he loves it!

While I was there, I noticed Tina's portrait of Amrit and also I saw the finished painting of Becca - they were both amazing!

Paul, I hope you are feeling a bit better, getting ill so soon after your serious op must have been both worrying and unpleasant.

Sandycat, you need to look up shingles, too. I had a terrible blistery outbreak on my arms and legs that I thought was hives, but it was shingles. Or, since it's on your legs only, it might be a contact dermatitis with something like poison ivy.

I think I remember that glass artist and the link you had to his work. If you find it, I, for one, would really enjoy seeing it again!

Well, I've got my art (and crafts) all packed up, and I need to make tracks to the gallery with it. Later, Gator!

Wow, Becca! You can almost reach out and feel that beautifully rendered frost and fur on these horses! She is a very inspiring painter!

On my way back from the gallery I passed our Capitol building on the east and our downtown lights on the west. It's lucky the traffic was so heavy it was almost crawling, because there at the interface between day and night, the eastern sky was soft blue velvet blending up into the most perfect delicate lavender imaginable. It made the capitol dome look ancient and greenish against it, rather than the white I'm used to seeing. Then the two tall bank buildings toward the sunset had their cross-shaped lights on to honor Christmas. As I drew closer to the buildings, I realized that a lot of office lights were still on for those working late, but the sort of lights they used to shape the crosses were brilliant. I wondered what kind of light they used to achieve that ... halogen or something even brighter?

One of these days when I'm not driving, I'll take a picture of those buildings, but I don't think I'll ever be able to capture that glowing beauty of the sky in the east. Cameras just don't catch the effect of that kind of light. Those lambent colors made a visual memory for me that I will always treasure.:o
