Hopefully, you can clear up some confusion :)

One of your competitors (Jerrys) has been sending out emails saying that the price of Arches watercolor paper is going to go up by a considerable amount.

Someone posted in the Watercolor forum that he had heard that the mill where Arches has been manufactured since the 1400s had gone out of business.

Can you shed some light on what is going on with Arches watercolor paper... if anything???

Hi Susan,
We contacted Canson about this, and this is what they had to say:

"The price of cotton has been going up substantially for the past 18 months, and we were forced to take a price increase.

The rumors of the Arches mill going out of business is completely false. Arjo Wiggins, sold their primary business (largest global producer of paper for laminates i.e. furniture, cabinets etc.).

The Arches mill is intact and a growing business that will not close after over 500 years of existence."

It appears that Arches is here to stay. Hopefully this is reassuring to all the artists out there that are worried about their favorite paper vanishing. The price increase is unfortunate, but we at Blick are trying to keep the price down as much as possible. We acted on the price increase in early September, so we do not anticipate any further drastic changes.

Becky - thank you for checking with Canson and for such a quick response. That's great news. I would hate to see a 500+ year tradition end.

I know that I can always count on DickBlick for great products, great prices and quick responses to questions. Keep up the good work and thanks again
