Sandra, as far as I know, I will say yes right now...depends on Tina. Without her it would be two more.

I was thinking of 3 weeks or so, about the 27th. Is that too soon?

Yep , I will try for that Becc:D , I need to stop mopping around and get to it really:o ... but thats means, I wont have much time for anything else really ...

!becca

Sandra, we can work with a week or two later, don't know if that will help. But then, you know what they say about busy hands and minds.:D

!becca

Is the 27th a good target for everyone? We can adjust if necessary.

I am really excited to see what everyone has done.:)

If I had to describe myself in one word, it would probably be, "bad at following intstructions".

lovin art

Why do you say so Paul, and that's more then one word .... If I had to describe me it would be in a word - indecisive : - )

!becca
09-11-2011, 09:34 AM
Thanks, Sid, Rolina and Sandra, we will see how that will work for everyone else.:)

Now that watering has slowed down, I have started taking a quick half mile walk in the mornings out the the middle of the pasture and back. This morning when I turned to make the lap back, there was Toby, moving as quickly as he could to catch up.:cat: So, I picked him up and carried him back home. It added a little weight to my efforts.:D

sidbledsoe
09-11-2011, 10:26 AM
they make good paperweights too, unless the get scared and jump away and papers go flying everywhere!

Good morning everybody!

sidbledsoe
09-11-2011, 11:37 AM
b, how about those eyes, she's got good eye don't she! she is on 11x14 i think that is the biggest paper i have or i would have gone bigger, i should have some 16x20 somewhere, i better go look and see what the hell i do have anyway!
she is still a wip, long ways to go but i will get her done!

!becca
09-11-2011, 11:45 AM
Sid, she does have beautiful eyes, and there is not doubt they are the focal point of that photo. 11x14 is a good size for that one, I think....after you finish you need to paint her.:D

sidbledsoe
09-11-2011, 12:11 PM
i might paint her too, will see, but it looks like i started the monthly oily rag sandra challenge for september!:D

!becca
09-11-2011, 12:28 PM
Great eye, Sid!!! I was thinking the eyes alone would make good eye studies. Yes, it does seem to be the month for Sandra art.:D I may paint her larger one day.

lovin art
09-11-2011, 01:25 PM
Now thats one cool looking eye there:D , I am with Becc on this , LIKE WOW:clap: Sid you are making that drawing positively glowing:angel: ...... and small to like Becc wow again!!

you know those eyes are deep and full , very full:o , but Nells are even more so she gets her bestest features off her Mumma:heart: :D

!becca
09-11-2011, 01:32 PM
Sandra, you are so right, Nell does look a lot like her Momma! But, Sid's drawing is actually about 4x bigger than my little painting.:D

lovin art
09-11-2011, 01:39 PM
She sure does Becc :D , but shes more beautiful ....I think

!becca
09-11-2011, 01:43 PM
Sandra, I don't know where everyone is. Nancy should be turning up soon. Maybe Jessica is out for the day(?) Carey too (?) It has become very quiet here.

3 am is pretty early!

I may try to paint a little something soon.:)

NancyMP

YES, I WILL BE READY TO SHIP ON THE 27TH!
SHOULD WE SHIP EARLIER FOR OUR OVERSEAS FRIENDS?

Hi, Oily Peeps! I've sketched out the Sandra challenge on a 18x14 canvas, almost life-sized...I'm really tired of painting small! It's not worth looking at now, so don't ask!

CareyG
09-11-2011, 02:12 PM
Sid, that is going so beautifully! I love that close up shot of the eye. I can really tell it's Sandra just from that!

Marcia  that is truly a ridiculous picture. But then, of course it is, it has a cat in it. :cat:

Rolina, how funny you should go mentioning topics that you can't stand. I recently vowed to myself never to read another post with the word "environment" in its subject. Maybe these topics *should* be able to be discussed with rationally...unfortunately, a lot of people have no sense and love to form opinions that are not actually informed opinions. I really can't stand to listen to people who who have no sense of reality and who glean their opinions from mainstream media.

Ahem, anyway. There are times where it's just not a good idea for me to be browsing the main forum. The one thing I dislike about art is how liberal artists tend to be.

And now I am going to take a nap. :D

I CAN SHOUT LOUDER THAN ANYBODY HERE!:D:evil:

Sandra's portrait is gonna be fun. A long time ago, I was warned about not ever doing a portrait that was as large or larger than life, so it's not quite as large as a real adult. This is gonna be a joyful experience!

Carey, speaking of news media saturation, although I remember (as does everyone old enough) the tragedy of ten years ago, but I am heartily sick of the nation-wide wallowing that is going on today! They even got the cartoonists doing it, and they're supposed to be light and funny. What's up with all this latter-day public mourning? I would rather hold it in my heart with my own memories than participate in a public crying fest!

!becca
09-11-2011, 03:34 PM
I CAN SHOUT LOUDER THAN ANYBODY HERE!

I believe you.

You are so right about working just less than life sized...larger tends to take on a less comfortable look.

I started a thread in portraiture that I would love for you and Sid to include your paintings/drawings in.:D

I have always put aside the politics of the day and focused on the importance of our wedding anniversary instead.

Here is a serious question for everyone...if we are going to open shipping early for international..do you want to open shipping for all the swaps since we aren't going to open them until everyone has recieved all their packages? Or, do you prefer a set date...the 27th?

lovin art
09-11-2011, 05:10 PM
This is gonna be a joyful experience!

Im sure it will be ~you paint beautifully  ... your both right anything over life size is a big task for sure , I guess thats why we stand and marvel at the likes of Sargent etc , who for the life of me blow me away the staggering size those masters worked at:eek: , but then they probably had a barrage of assistants to do all the other mundane crap in life I would rather forget about ...too:rolleyes:

yeah I agree Nance:thumbsup: , it was a very sad day indeed :( , but life is ment for going on and for living , and like you say hold the memories in ones heart ... :)

Becc:heart: my Kansas girl! Happy Anniversary my darlin ... hope you had a wonderful day:D !!!

NancyMP
09-11-2011, 06:17 PM
Sandra, I think if John Singer Sargent ever painted larger than life, it must have been for monumental works, because I saw his work in both Gloucester (his hometown), and the Boston museum, and all the humans are painted either life-sized or smaller than life. But he did make some huge paintings incorporating many such figures, and like Sorolla, they are both breathtaking and stunning!:D

Becca, you were a beautiful bride! It's not the warm brown hair that startled me - but the curls! Are you really that naturally curly or is that a permanent wave? I fight with my fine straight hair non-stop!

I just finished my charcoal sketch of Sandra to my satisfaction, should I post it or wait tor paint, which I'm just getting into?

Sandra,  I really thought those were swans, not snakes. :D (I think swans suit you better, anyway.)

As for the swap, I don't necessarily care if we don't all ship at the same time, but...it does add a bit of excitement if we do. It's really fun to see how long it takes to get to everyone.

Becca, since you invited us, I went ahead and posted my start on Sandra on your thread in Portraiture. Painting larger took up all my premixed flesh tones, so instead of mixing up more I decided to wait until I have better light tomorrow. Also, I spilled my jar of OMS and got a dab of flesh paint on my fave jeans!!! So I need to go clean stuff up now...

Thank you, Sandicat! What great praise coming from such an accomplished artist!:D You think you might be a little biased?:heart:

Becca, that is a good test, and it makes me think that there is something bad for you in those drops. Do they dry your eyes out? If the doctor says you should keep taking them after you've checked out the drops and you know it's them, he may just advise wetting solution for your eyes.:(:o

!becca
09-12-2011, 12:49 AM
Nancy, I take them orally, to help with a little degeneration, but maybe I have taken them long enough that I don't need them any more....:D

NancyMP

It must be something like a steroid then... that's the only thing I take that I have to be very careful about, prednisone, 'cause it can make bad things as well as good things to happen to my bod!

!becca
09-12-2011, 12:56 AM
It actually is huge doses of many nutrients, especially a few flavoniods that have showed promise with eye issues like this. But for some reason I noticed immediately they made me feel differently...but then they are in huge doses, who knows what else they can impact besides the eyes.

NancyMP
09-12-2011, 01:01 AM
Becca, as soon as you finish the testing, you need to tell your doctor that you're not taking them anymore, and why. It sounds like it could be pretty risky for you.

By the way, I'm taking your advice on the Reubens, and will saute them in olive oil - we went to a restaurant that serves a wonderfully rosemary flavored bread, and they put out a small plate of olive oil and vinegar for dipping it. Yummy!

By the way, I'm taking your advice on the Reubens, and will saute them in olive oil - we went to a restaurant that serves a wonderfully rosemary flavored bread, and they put out a small plate of olive oil and vinegar for dipping it. Yummy!

Many years ago when I first moved to Southern New Jersey, I found it a odd but pleasant custom that all the Italian restaurants here when they served Italian bread, they served it along with fragrant extra virgin olive oil, spiced with garlic, basal, oregano, among others spices for dipping. It was very easy custom to get use to

Becca, sometimes (having worked at a newspaper) I wonder about local media - their brains and their taste! We have a Food Dude here who is always writing about this wonderful restaurant or another. I've been to most of them, and I would rather have stayed home and cooked!

Jessica, it's all your fault that I took a look here and it had advanced four pages ...and now you're conked out? You can start a gabfest at the drop of a hat!

Carey, that should be a great show! Here at Tinker AFB, we have a whole assortment of old planes, including a couple of Air Force Ones - I know that the one Eisenhower used is there!:smug:

Hey Sandra you have a great start there! :D

MY SWAPS ARE DONE. They all came out great. Well, one of them I am not sure is exactly successful as a painting but it has an undeniable "cool factor". Well, i think so anyhow, although this is just the opinion of someone who wears leopard print so take that for what it is worth!

Well anyhow they are all a little different but I hope you like them. :D

:D  I'm so glad you liked the package, Jessica. :D I was afraid that the rice paper would be terribly dinged up, but it seems to have come through all right.

Nancy (and Becca :)), thank you. You are so sweet. I just had a look at your painting--it looks wonderful! What a lovely touch with the ocean. The colors are great and really set it off, I also really like where you placed the horizon line, it's perfect. You are terrific with skin tones, Nancy. The features are just beautiful, too.

I must have missed some paintings.
Becca has a thread in Portraiture (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=948021) where Nancy also posted her painting.

I found the little tree amongst an odd assortment of little plastic toys and I knew you must have it. :D

My neighbor isn't playing lullaby music...egads, I live a half mile away and can still hear their radio (I think it is a radio). It is on early in the mornings too..like at daybreak. I do hope it stops working one day as it is an unpleasant distraction.

Jessica, for the past 20 minutes I have been trying to remember something I wanted to tell you, but it is lost for the time....there was a spark of memory at one point, but it wouldn't surface.:o When it comes to me, i am just going to post it at random.
