becca, i did one of my early wakeup numbers and clocked in, I must have woken you up!

Yes, the swaps!!! Everyone should keep us posted when each arrives.:D

Acutally my husaband did. I went to sleep at 2:30 and he was up at 3:00 worrying about his schedule.

and you called the swaps unmentionables?
what, is the PM system not working or something?

CareyG
09-28-2011, 09:37 AM
Sid, you should know by now that nothing is unmentionable here, except the Unmentionables. What, you thought women's undies were okay but anything belonging to men was not?

Ohhh we are getting a thunderstorm and a downpour for reals this morning! It is as dark as twilight out there. (And here I was going to take a picture of the pumpkin I did yesterday, guess it'll have to wait til later again.)

Nancy, I get stamps?! :D :D :D Awesome. :D I am a little sad about mine because I mailed them at the main post office, as I really wasn't convinced my local one would have customs forms  but that way I didn't get the stamps on mine. Sorry, everyone! Nancy, those are really beautiful pictures of a gorgeous area and you did some wonderful work!

 I see Tekila poking in at the windows wishing she was inside right now. Though why she isn't on the covered porch is beyond me. Sorry, Tekila, Ajax is the lucky one this morning!

Okay, hoping to get some painting time in today (I need to submit my Torrit Gray!!!) in between all the other distractions.

Oh, Becca, wonderful feeling in your painting!

I am looking forward to seeing your pumpkins.:D Thank you for you comment on my painting.:)
Rain! We had drizzle for all 5 days the cowboys were in our area, but it has been sunny and dry again since.

!becca
09-28-2011, 09:44 AM
I am so excited now for our swaps to start arriving.:D OF course my post lady gave me a fright when I shipped mine. She said if the customs people have a problem getting the customs forms in and out they may return them to me.:( Of course she could be wrong.

Carey, sad to say, I wasn't thoughtful enough to buy different stamps like the lady Becca would do! I was desperate to get it posted by this morning, and the only ones I had on hand were forever stamps. I need to take lessons from Becca and the rest of you on thoughtfulness!:(

I wish you all would quit talking about my tropical bra! I'm sure Sid doesn't wear bras, but if he did, he would look swell for Hawaii in that bra! I don't consider such stuff Unmentionable, because you see them on beaches all the time!

Anyway, Sid, even if you wanted it, I'm not sending it to you - IT'S ALL MINE!

Good morning!

It is foggy and beautiful here in California. Thought I would introduce myself as I sip morning coffee and contemplate a sketch for a painting.

My name is Stella and I am a painting addict. :)

What is on everyone's easel this fine day?

One morning I sat and sipped my coffee before going into the studio to work. I pondered how wonderful and unusual the morning was. Our 3 little girls were practically saints- listening and getting ready for school with barely a scrap and minimal reminders from me....

I could not help but wonder if perhaps this was not just a fluke but a pivotal moment that would become the norm. As I relished that idea and smiled, the dog walked by wearing my new bra....

(It is not a tropical bra- but the dog did look fetching)

LOL, they can't get rid of all of us, we are too good to ban!

So, everything is ready for me to assemble and package up my swap items this evening. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I think they look great en masse, but individually they don't look quite so good. I will be using smoke and mirrors to disguise that fact, heh-heh.

They will be in the post tomorrow - yay!

Hi Sandra, do not fret, I think it is the same for all of us, life has this habit of getting in the way of art sometimes!

I know two of mine aren't quite up to standard, but I shall send what I have done so they arrive on time and maybe those people will get another one at a later date when I am under less pressure.

So worry ye not!

sidbledsoe
09-28-2011, 01:37 PM
not to worry sandra, we are networked now and can always get hooked back up, if wetcanvas crashes and burns and dies then we will just all go to another art site or facebook and take over the place there too!

It may be bursitis, Rolina, if it's arthritis in the joints. My husband has it. I found out this morning at the doctor that I may not have RA, but just regular osteo-arthritis. It would be a relief since I worry about not being able to use my hands. Exercise is the best thing for it. I do have degenerative disc disease, but I've had that since I was thirty.

Becca, I have your phone number and Jessica's . I would love to have everyone's!

Hello all.

I am dog tired tonight so I am just dropping by quickly to confirm that my swaps have been posted. They were in the post room yesterday, but went today. I cheated and sent them from work, coz I had so much work I didnt have time to go to the post office. I am a bit disappointed in how they were sent out in the end as I had planned to present them in a more completed state - you'll probably understand when you receive them. Anyway, without sounding like I am apologising (which I am I suppose) I am just trusting that artists of vision like your wonderful selves will understand.

I've skimmed the chatter and will be back when I can keep my eyes open for longer.

Take care one and all :).

Green ants? Ewww!

Okay, I think I have finished my Torrit painting. (Finally!)

And, here are my latest two pumpkins. The terrible one and the first oils one!

Please give any critique of my Torrit painting (specifically, if there are any weird or distracting shapes in the abstractish background). This was not my original composition idea, but it developed through frustration. :p

Jessica, I really hate text messaging and have only done it out of utter despair. And my android phone doesn't like the idea of me actually speaking and hearing through it ... as if it has no business being a lowly telephone.

To me, that's always its prime function. I don't need the camera, and all the bells and whistles. I like to be able to browse the web occasionally on it, but would rather use my big screen either on my desktop or laptop. Himself is the same way, although in his work life he was a computer programmer. You can really tell we're old stick-in-the-muds, cantcha?

Sandicat, thanks for the link; I just signed up for the Webinar, too.:D I love Larry's work and his instruction both. Now I need to figure out how to operated my mic on the 'puter.

Carey, your little zebra is so sweet, and I like both the pumpkins: the first with the swirly ink has a witchy appeal, and the second is a great pumpkin rising from the patch to bring gifts to all good little kids!:D

I took my car in to Hyundai to look at the tire, and they fixed it. He said it was a nail in the tire...I don't know how many times that has happened to me. They always fix it free. :) The campfire stones had nothing to do with it, but 800 miles can easily pick up a nail.

I liked the people who re-roofed my house a couple of years ago; they had magnets they used afterward to make sure no spare nails were left on our property.:smug:

Becc, Himself and I drove both our cars (mucho equipment to haul), and it was so nice to have 800 miles of being perfectly alone to think and create things in my mind.

I set my radio to the '80s, which I remember I really loved for great, creative use of syncopation, synthesizer effects, and really terrific musicians. Like Arrowsmith, Debbi Hari, Billy Ocean, Men at Work, Rick Springfield, Cyndi Lauper, the Rolling Stones, and too many others to mention that I loved as well ...

I always liked Moog synthesizer effects, and back in the '60s, my sister, who knew I also loved Bach, bought me an album called "Switched-on Bach." I never had a birthday present that was so perfect for me as that one!

Thank you, Bjorn, yes, that is pretty much the point of this, to try different techniques and approaches.

Becca, well the last few days I haven't been keeping up on it so much. I keep thinking about how long it's going to take and maybe my pumpkins will not hold out, but I have a back up in that case. :D The thing about this is, though, since I'm using various media, it's not so taxing as if I were doing it with just one media...that *would* drive me crazy. I don't mind working lots of drawings, as I need to work on various drawing techniques.

I am also thinking that now that I have this Torrit painting out of the way, I might start working up some more Ummentionables. :D Well, they will be Unmentionable until we get to open our packages, then I can Mention them.

Both my husband and I now have Hyundais, his is the hatchback Accent, and mine is the Elantra model. They have a five year warranty that includes roadside service, so for a great car, a good price, good service, and lots of luxury items that come standard, the South Koreans have them all beat with Hyundai!

Sandicat, today's music is so tame it's boring.:p It reminds of what they call church music these days: just repetitious lazy choruses with very little effort or brains required. The only way you can get to sing good music* these days is to sing it to yourself, or join a choir. I tried out for our city choir, the Canterbury Choral Society, but wasn't chosen. We have a lot of good singers here in Oklahoma, and some that are nationally famous.

Wow isnt it funny how you can caught up in life thinking that you have forever , let little things that dont really matter deep down , but you think they do at the time , get to you , I guess its only human to feel all that , we are after all just that , basic , and then something happens to go throw a spanner in the works and bring you down to earth with a thud.... makes you look at your life through different eyes I think ....

I always thought I was a humble person:o , but Im not , I need to work on that more , yeah sure I have a heart of gold and would give away what ever I have to make anyone happy , but sometimes its just not enough and to know that Life can be taken in an instant , ~well that is kinda thought provoking for me ... meaning nothing matters really , but the beginning and ending of Life is a pure certainty , its what we do in between that all that counts really....

Stella will be up a while, Sandicat! It's only 9 p.m. in California! Sid is getting called Cathy because that was what his mother had picked for his name before he was born, and she got a surprise: he was male!

Johnny Cash used have a song called "A Boy Named Sue" a long time ago, in the sixties, I think. Lyrics below, but if you heard him sing it, it's even funnier!

"A Boy Named Sue"

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!
Now your gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Sue.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name!

Stella, how about some American Reisling and some string cheese? I love whine parties!

I'm going to have to take a muscle relaxant, unfortunately, which will rule out any alcohol, but pretend I'm there and drink enough for me! Enjoy!

Jess, I haven't commented on your sp. There's a reason. Although it's a great painting in itself, and you've taken some pains with it, you are so much prettier than the painting makes you look.

:o You are too kind Nance. There's a reason my sp is a little...well, not smiley and a little dark. I did that on purpose, it is a better reflection of just where I am in general with life. Im not sure what your statement means about the painting- - but thanks! :D

Nite Sandicat  2pm-ish there, I am all packed for painting tomorrow and am SO EXCITED. :D

Oh, and I bought a thermos tonight at Target which is supposed to keep liquids hot for 12 hours. I always want my afternoon tea time when out painting, so I hope it really works! (it better work it was $28)

Sandra, I didn't either, but somehow I always knew... I even dreamed of my little girl before she was born and she looked how I thought she would look. She's one of the sweetest women on earth, and her laugh makes the angels smile!

D'ja ever notice that you think you can't love them any more than when they're first born, and then your heart keeps growing and growing to accommodate more love than you ever thought you could hold? And as for grandkids, I think I grew six new hearts and my chest is full!

I just spent the past hour and a half repainting my horse:(...I hate doing rework and the paint was already beginning to be uncooperative...I hadn't really looked at it carefully all day as there was so much hubbub until tonight...but I hate to say, it might have netted an improvement to the appearance of the horse. I need more time to be sure of that. By the way, this was my first ( and second) time to paint a horse.

Becc, I hope we have a mass murdering of red cedars from the dryness, which is the only thing that would make it worthwhile. They spread fires so well that we might as well have oil-soaked rags growing out of the ground! There's no indication that we will recover from the drought this winter, so far.:(
