Hey Becc  me and sick dont mix , but thankyou for saying I look good , it wasnt hard either in a ward full of older patients
Sandra you're back, yeay! You seem much brighter and optomistic - I think you gave us all a bit of a fright. I am tired of people being carted off to hospital this year and so I declare that no-one else is to be sick for a very long time. OK? Oh, and I am going to send you and extra something in your package just for being special and spreading your sunshine around even though you were sick.
Im sorry girl for the fright , its not been easy for me, and to go into hospitial is even harder , I like you have lost my mum and well hospitals they bring a stigma to my mind , of losing her all over again ... we are the same I bet on that count ... Im most touched at your love and respect for me Tina, :grouphug: you are are a great soul girl!!! and does that mean Im getting the Pizza then :D
I want to say this morning, you all are so uplifting and sweet, thank you for that.
Carey your the sweet one:heart: , I loved reading your thoughts here and had to high light them ... we are a very lovely bunch of women are we not
Thankyou Rol  , well I know she wont be impressed when the braces do really go on ... they hurt like hell ... but she will have a million dollare smile I know that ...: )
Sandra, even sick you're beautiful! Nell making funny faces is cute! She must have kept you cheered up a lot while you were going through this!
 :D and you are right Nance she did cheer me up, and other times I just want to throttle her ... Im really a loving mother ... :D
Sandicat I am so glad you are out of the hospital!
you and me both babe .... im sorry about you being swamped at work , thats the pits really :( ...you need to be on here with us , ok me Im being selfish here now ... :D
Sandra you seem to be a good patient and very kind to bring them flowers im sure they dident expect that
Hia Bjorn ,:D your right they didnt expect it and they were very touched I think , I think human kindness is selfless dont you? and its nice to show it in return ...they never left my side and looked after me, to me the flowers pale in comparsion...

I just had to see this one repeated! I love the way cats and horses bond with each other!
You all seem to have so much fun when I can't be here (and yeah I am here for some fun that others miss, too:o) ... this is terrific, and so is Jessica's 2006 portrait of Sigynn!
I ahd a very lonely day at the gallery today. Nobody came in except for an artist who is going to bring some work for us to see; the gallery owner from next door; one of our artists who was replacing a painting he sold; another of us coming in to pick up some 4x4"inch gallery wraps that the gallery wants us to paint; and some girl got excited about a humongous spider hanging out right above our creek next to the mint and had to come make me look.
So five hours of not selling anything, and nobody even interested in looking at the work!:( So when I closed up, I went out and saw a monarch fluttering around the creek and shooed it away from that lurking spider, whom I've named Shelob  in courtesy to Lord of the Rings. Tried to get a pic of both Shelob and the Monarch, but I don't think I got good results.
Talked to my friend about the gallery wanting us to sell stuff for $25, and she says she didn't remember it being that low, so I'm gonna call the gal who suggested it and talk turkey with her!:wink2:
I will do some packing and some painting tonight, and I want to figure out what size canvases to take to Black Mesa this weekend!

Sandra, those are beautiful!!
Bjorn, maybe you don't have this problem, but for me the worst part about lack of sleep is the terrible mood I get in.
Nancy, don't make me tell you about the bug hanging by our pond. :( :( :crying: No way could I get myself to take a picture of it. (So no, you guys *ain't* seeing it!) I do hope that there is some better news from your gallery. Too bad about the non-profitable day.
I have some interesting news from dinner...I recently read about a substitute for rice (for those people interested in cutting carbs)...grated cauliflower, and I tried it tonight. (With this recipe (http://cooking.consumerhelpweb.com/exoticcuisine/moroccanblackberrychicken.htm) I found, which is excellent.) While I would not be one of those people claiming it's just like rice!, I do have to say I really liked it! In fact, I think I liked it better than plain old rice or mashed potatoes (which I like both fine, but I'm not a super fan of them, except when it comes to rice with Chinese). I just steamed the cauliflower florets and then I grated them (a food processor would work, too). I was very pleasantly surprised that I liked it so much, I am not exactly a cauliflower lover to begin with. But I think I would prefer it anytime when I'd usually just use white rice at home.
Just thought I'd share my interesting find.

basically my diet is crap atm:( and I need to look at changes , the prob is Im not the best at eating meat  .... Im kinda in a catch 22 cause I dont want to take iron tablets they are horrible and worse than the stuff they just put in me ......

Sandra I don't eat meat...haven't for 17 years...and my iron has never been considered low. Vitamin c helps with iron absorption, so OJ is a good thing with meals. Also, there are plenty of iron-rich foods that aren't meat.
My personal faves are spinach, eggs, tofu, legumes and, of all things, molasses. Hemme iron (in meat and eggs) is better absorbed but a balanced diet of nonhemme iron is still ok. There are foods you should avoid if you have absorption probs (soy...ironic since tofu is high iron). Talk to your dr or maybe even a nutritionist.

Back in the day, I used to read Adelle Davis books, and I think she had a great recipe for a protein shake to be taken daily. The book I had by her was Diet for a Small Planet. To me, it sounded like a lot of trouble to make and awful tasting, and I never tried it. But these (http://www.topproteinshakes.com/protein-shake-recipes/)recipes sound yummy, and easy to make!

Sandra, I am sure your doctor will help you make wise choices. Evenyone is different, really. I have always had fairly high iron levels, and have higher than normal red cell count. Sandra thanks very much... yes it is on the dark side and I couldn't fix it in photoshop without it looking strange. It is the photo, I need good natural light. I did a lot of glazing in the upper layers, but the bottom layers are just normal color. I didn't do a grisaille or anything like that.

I decided after yesterday's muddying up of my sunlight thang, that I would lose some edges and embrace the Force of the Light Side! I still couldn't get the light pure enough so I went and used a painting knife to make the LIGHT dominate the whole stupid little 8x8. I won't show it again, because I think the only person I'm trying to please here is me.:o

a good iron levels make you less prone to "take up" cadmiums. when i was young like 12-13 we used to make a oven baked pancake with pigblood and ham in. while eating meat is not very enviromental it atleast keeps the landscape more open with the cows/sheep eating grass and upcomeing small trees.

I got the information about the Odd Nerdrum self portraits show off his website ages ago but misremembered the dates - so its still happening - ooohh, I need to be kidnapped and taken to Stockholm!!!! http://www.nerdruminstitute.com/latest_news.php I wonder how his financial problems and pending prison sentence has affected his plans. I would love to see some of his work in person, he is my number one favourite living artist so I also would love to hear your thoughts on his work. I will live through you.
Thanks for posting those links. I see you have a wonderful sensitivity in your work, not suprising really as thats how you come over personally. Are all our pieces self portraits? I think so. I admire anyone who can do watercolours, total mystery to me and I think you are right about plein air, although I still have to take my first step in that direction.

HI everybody!
I have been busy with the Art Tours folks - things are going to press this week, and I helped design the CD cover for the recordings of local musicians that is included in the catalog. (The idea is that people can listen to local music while driving from studio to studio.) Anyway, the cover led to the idea of putting a tattoo sticker in with the CD, and yesterday after dropping off the CD artwork at the printers, I modified a design to be made into a rubber stamp to stamp on the CDs.
A gallery in Palm Springs is hosting a 'sneak peek' of paintings on the tour, so I have to make an image list to email within the hour, and drop off 2 paintings on Saturday. It seems like a small thing, but they also asked if I could help with getting image lists from the other artists. Ummmmm. NO. I still need to frame things, tidy the studio, price my work in the studio, deliver new work at the gallery for October, takes a deep breath, and contact Dirk Hamilton about the house concert on Nov 5, to see if there is any promotional images and stuff I can use for fliers and event announcements. I'd like to get fliers posted around town by the first weekend in October. Invites emailed and a facebook event put out mid month.
So I have been catching up on posts and that's about it. Can't believe it's Thursday already...

Tina how kind you are yeah i will tell how it is hopefully im not working the 4 okt when they have guide, i have vaccation that day so i should not work but who knows or i could kidnap you? i still have so much to learn in watercolor technique and also where to go with them i mean i love hawthornes watercolors found a site that list alot of them i dont want to post their site here because they sell alot of reproductions and posting them here might bring them higher on google search. but it is hard with them that you cant get same "recission" unless you just use local color gradation.
Sid ahh will keep my eyes on the plein air forum then.
marcia alot of work but must be fun being involved.
Becca yeah soon september is over so what is it that you have to become better at? you draw good, makes good decission on values so you get what you want

Bjorn, your post is so timely! You are so kind, but I have lots to get better at. But, for a time anyway, I plan to paint selfishly for my pure pleasure of painting.:)
You have the right idea, exploring other artists works to help your style. What you have shown, i think is good, I like the spirit of it.
Well, I am off to the dentist chair now.

Hiya Bjorn My , My , please dont be putting your self down like that  , i like your work you just need more time at it ,all improvement will come but only with dedication , I am more focused then I used to be , I draw nearly every day of my life and that is what it takes and then some!!:D , although I will admite I do get sick of black and white , and sometimes need that interjection of color ... you have a lovely soft flow to your hand I feel.... is water color the medium you will work in or Oils too ...?? oh and thankyou for liking my Work that Pastel is not bad for a sick girl ....I did a beautiful one of my daughter I will post for you if I can find it ...

Yeah we all need injections of color. i want to work in both watercolor and oil, but with all transparency of watercolor make it harder to judge the values and colors as good with oil. I need lots of practise thats what im saying a practise all of you made so naturally your work is better. ugh poor you hope you have shaked it off now

Here is the stuff I have worked on lately for the tours. None of the artwork is mine, I just helped with the design, and modifying it so it worked for what it was needed for. Highway 62 is the road that ties all of our desert communities together.
CD Cover: the bottom folds back and then it folds in half to create a pocket for the CD and tattoo. The whole thing goes into 5.5" X 5.5" glassine envelopes
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/22-Sep-2011/208394-xHWY62LoveSongsCD.jpg
the rubber stamp art to ink onto the actual CD. I had to change 'Art tours', which was on the original 'real' handmade stamp, to say 'Love Songs' in photoshop and then make it 'line art':
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/22-Sep-2011/208394-Hwy62stamp_BnW2X2.jpg
the original stamp:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/22-Sep-2011/208394-mita_stamp_copy.jpg
I just put an arrow through the heart for the 'tattoo'. Simple enough, except it took 4 attempts before I came up with an arrow that met what the council had in mind.I am not a mind reader, big surprise.

Sandra you should call them about the feeling strange. Would be strange if you dident feel down all this things around this and so close to death it takes time to really realise but hold onto the string, maybe they can remove that tingly feeling. some pain doctors would call that a kind of nerve pain.
Marcia yeah looks great and another thing to add to your CV but must feels good to have done so much then next time you can get a free ride but you proably get abit of kick todo all this after this is done you can really feel important!

Bjorn, I've never been out of the U.S. even to Mexico which is pretty close! I have yet to get a passport, but what kept me close to home all this time is that my children are in different places and while I was still working, I got used to spending all my vacation time with them. Now that my grandchildren are growing up, too, I've been thinking about getting a passport and seeing France and Italy before I'm caput! You Europeans have a fantastic access to each other's history and culture that I really envy!:o
And I NEED to go to Oz and visit Sandra!
I'm giving up on being obsessed with this stupid dinky little painting. I would need a much bigger canvas than an 8x8 to capture that light, and I'm not sure the subject matter would even be worth it. I can't even snap a picture without all the canvas texture showing through! This is my last "study" on this thing:

Nancy, I like you little dinky too, lucky person who gets it in their swap.
Well everyone's current health problems are clearing up, let hear it for <<<Oily Good Health Vibes!>>>
Thanks for complimenting my graphics work, Yeah, I should add it to my resume, hadn't even given it a thought! I'll have to take a shot of the whole package when it is put together.
The person I worked with on it also put the CD together, from asking for music from people, to remixing, to getting the CDs made, and a million details in between. He's president of the arts council, and apparently he got in a fight today with the head of the art tours, each one feeling they have done more than their fair share, and feeling very put upon. I'm afraid some 'Eff You's' were exchanged quite loudly in the parking lot.
Well, it is deadline time for the print and promotions, and they are all under pressure and more than a little tetchy. A shame because they are both normally very nice competent people and easy to get along with.

Yes, my granddaughter in Ecuador, Marcia! (Don't tell her I'm pigging out on these, since she can't get any!)
I know the feeling of thinking you've put in more work than you wanted to; since I'm in a cooperative gallery, I feel a lot more compassion for some of the other artists who have to put in just as much time as I do, and feel admiration for a few of them who cheerfully take on extra work for the gallery. So I would be ashamed :( to complain, much less have a shouting match. But shame is so out of fashion these days...

Nancy, as a former commercial artist, you know you are at the mercy of the client. Ted, the CD compiler, had certain elements he had in mind, like the cover art donated by a local photo artist and a local musician and putting it all in glassine envelopes. We wanted it to tie it in with the catalog, hence the yellowed paper edges and font provided by the person handling that.
My job was to just "make it happen". At least I didn't have to take into account a barcode and copyright jabberwocky and all that legal junk.
However, it is a good reminder why I never pursued commercial art; it is too much compromising, and pleasing someone else - or else.
Marcia, thanks for reminding me, you have done a band up job with that entire package. And with such things no wonder nerves get frayed. (you should put it in your resume)
Also 'has grace under pressure' and 'plays well with other artists'. That last seems to be a rare commodity, we are either hopelessly shy and awkward, or have enormous egos. That's why I like the Rag, we are all exceptions to that!

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better overall and I hope your health issues level out for you soon so you can properly concentrate on your art. I am the worst person to have around in a medical crisis, totally squeemish and when my kids were little my greatest fear was to have to deal with any sort of medical emergency. Thats why I freak out a bit with anything to do with hospitals although I have had to get used to it for other people in the last few years. Anyway, I was joshing with you about the Guiness really, you have received plenty of sensible advice here and I hope it helps.
Loved your hospital sketches, you are a very good girl practicing all the time.
Morning to everyone else. Thanks goodness its Friday.
Been looking at day trips to Stockholm, is it possible I wonder? I can make anything happen if I want it badly enough.
Gotta go, a customer wants to yell at me

Just teasing, we know you are too sweet for that.
I didn't say before, but hi Becca and Bjorn and everyone else. :)
I think I have ravenous pups to feed...

Okay, here is my new project!
I am going to paint/sketch/draw 100 pumpkins.
Yes, I said pumpkins, which do not even belong to the equine class.
For a long while it's been in my head to try a continuous project like this. I have seen people do it before (my recent inspiration has been winecountry's current project) and they always claim much is gained from it. A lot of creativity can surface in such a project that would not happen without such inspiration of doing different things with the same subject. A couple of years ago, someone was posting in the Watermedia forum about his project of painting 100 limes--it was amazing, he ended up with a lot of different ideas just to try different things. I wanted to do something similar, but nothing of specific interest really came to me at the time.
Part of the point, for me, is to focus on something relatively simple in construction, so that more focus can be on materials handling, values, light, finding interest in simple things, and just generally finding creative and interesting ways of composing a simple item. All of my interests thus far have been of the complicated type, needing anatomy study along with everything else, and also high-detail subjects. (Aka, stripes. :D) This will also give me motivation to be creative every day, the more often I am creative, the easier I find it to take some time to be so. (Though, I will say I have been on a roll lately and that is giving me confidence that I *might* finish this project.)
If I do not actually make it to 100, I will not beat myself up about it, but I will see how far I can get and I will be able to use every one of my art supplies I have. :D I already have ideas brewing and am excited to see what happens.
Why pumpkins? They are random enough for me. :p I bought a couple of cute little pie pumpkins last week and they have been sitting on my counter calling to me in their cuteness. Also, they are an interesting and difficult color to render. Of course, upon contemplating this project, I kept coming up with different ideas (and more complicated ones, which I really need to steer clear of for this first idea). Yesterday I bought a pomegranate, and I thought, ah-ha! Pomegranates! They are cute, too!! But I chided myself and said I had already decided upon pumpkins. If I really want, I can do a pomegranate later.

Tina, yes, I meant to say earlier...I do hope you find a way for your day trip.:D
Bjorn, no rats! We don't often have rats here, but the few times the cats have caught any the cats became very sick. I don't want that any more.:cat:
Carey, how exciting about your pumpkin project....100 it a lot of pumpkins. The first is really adorable. I will be cheering you on.:D

I didn't actually paint today, but I managed to get a lot of things off my head that will make painting easier when I can. As I mentioned earlier, I wrote my minutes. And, the book situation is now smoothed out a bit.:D Talked to my brother, he sounded great and the progress of him getting into the facility he wants to live in has made major headway. Also talked to my sister and we shared a fun laugh or two. Over all, aside from not really painting, it has been a good day.:D

hi becc, maybe your brutal long hot summer will be over now.
it is jim henson's 75 birthday, the muppets can be made to operate and move their mouths with the buttons below and there are some hidden animations that come up now and then, one did when i typed in a search, but there is no sound, just like real puppets:D
i did not paint yet today but i am getting ready to draw and paint a little now.
just spreading the word around about larry's webinar (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=949385), you will get to talk and watch realtime like skype.
(sounds like something oily chicas would dig doing here, maybe someday for the oily rag, right?):D
