View Full Version : Varnishing Acrylic Pint when using differe mediums

I used gloss varnish on a painting that uses matte medium on part of it, and the other part is using gloss medium, and so as a result I lost the difference between the two mediums!:(

How to varnish if I have used to different mediums matte and gloss?

I'm afraid the final varnish will always even out the finish of the work .... all you could try is gloss on gloss and matt on matt if you want to keep the differences.

Some people choose not to varnish for this very reason.

If I choose not to varnish, then what are the things that I should consider regarding the paints to use, so that my painting will last longer?

Not much, unfortunately acrylic paint is porous and will collect dirt over time. This doesn't mean that your painting won't outlast you.

Send off an email to Patty Brady. I heard that she doesn't varnish her work for the same reason.

Many fine artists do not varnish - personal preference!

To protect, you may, possibly, be able to frame behind glass.
