Lovely painting, I really like how you painted the tulip around the side of the canvas too.

THANK YOU Bert, Gayle, Henry, Eric and Inky!!!
I really appreciate your thoughtful comments.
I love painting around the sides, I do that on all my paintings,
it gives the client/owner the ability to hang it with or without a frame, and looks more finished too.
(I just dont always take the photo of the sides though)
THANKS again my friends.

Kathie. this came out beautiful. I wasn't sure why the flower on the right got cut off but now i see why and it worked out just perfect.
Hi Kathie, I'm so flattered that you were inspired by my photo! You have certainly done it justice. I love the way that you've captured the light on the flower tops and lovely subtle use of all the shades of greens for the stems. What a nice surprise to open this thread!

Pete, Thanks so much, Glad you enjoyed it.
I dont always show the sides but with this composition I thought it would be best.
Coralie, I am sooo glad you are pleased, I love the photo, the lighting is amazing in this one.. SO had to try it.. I'm glad you like it!!:D
Very nice! I like how you captured the glow and I'm with everyone else, the painted sides are great.

Kathie, this is why I like your work so much - because its wonderfully educative at the same time. Thank you!
Did you leave out the angular shadow deliberately?
08-21-2011, 04:54 PM
Hi Roy, thank you very much!! I did deliberately leave the shadow out..I wanted it to be more of a blend from light to dark, not sure if it gives the same effect or not but works. Glad you enjoyed it too!!

Very nice tulips, great colors, well done :)

I LOVE these!!!
Do you stretch your own canvas? Or do you just paint onto the sides of ones you buy?
08-22-2011, 10:07 AM
Hoofty, Thank you very much!
Melissa, Thank you, I paint on the store bought canvas', I dont stretch my own, its just so easy to pick them up at the store. I do regesso and sand them though depending on the amount of smoothness I want. Thanks again!

Kathie, great composition. Especially now that I see it painted over the side. I'm a big fan of painting on the sides as well. Looks more finished. I also liked the negative space. Until you put your signature on it. IMO, it is too bold, too big, and fights with the positive/negative space of the tulips.

Thank you very much Allison for your input regarding my signature.

I have no idea what happened to all my images posted here.. they definately were there before. Very strange!!

What paintings? Oh... I was looking at the blank spaces on #1 and didn't realize that you'd reposted the pics. What the heck is going on again?
09-14-2011, 12:37 AM
Jim, I just reposted these today, some reason they aren't visible on page one/initial post.. the site is being wonky today!!
09-14-2011, 02:06 PM
You attached the images. I wonder if that had something to do with them going missing. The second lot were uploaded through WC.
09-14-2011, 02:11 PM
hmmm the first lot was attached thru Wet canvas too usuing the paperclip icon just above the link icon.. as I always did. unitll recently when it kept saying failed upload, so now use the landscape icon.
very strange. also happed on other posts I did, I think it has something to do with WC uploaders or however they do that.

I love this Kathie, your color and the vibrancy of the color is wonderful, very uplifting. I really, really love your wrapping the subject around the canvas, I've looked at some things recently doing this and really like this, especially those canvases that aren't going to be framed--very, very nice. Your shading is wonderful, the picture of the canvas on the table shows how much this seems to lift the subject off the canvas. GREAT job.
09-14-2011, 04:07 PM
THANK YOU Soooo much Janet, I'm so glad you enjoyed this one.
ALL of my paintings that are on wrap canvas have painted sides, the painting is continued around the edges. This leaves the client/buyer the option whether to frame it or not.
Thanks again!! :)
09-14-2011, 04:13 PM
Maybe I noticed this one more because of the deep green of the leaves and the red tulip. I always completely paint all my wrap canvases too, I've even "anal" enough to paint the edges of my canvases too that are 3/4 (and will definitely be framed) but especially the 1.5" gallery wraps. So far most of my portraits are centered somewhat on my canvases so the ability to wrap the subject around the edges hasn't been there but I agree, I just like finishing things off. This one just really caught my eye. If I do a landscape painting behind a portrait I think I'll at least wrap a portion of the subject past the edge--looks really nice.

Love these tulips! Wonderfully done...
