Back To School Pencil Sharpening
Now that school is heading back into session, teachers, parents, and students alike are stocking up on supplies. While many of our customers are focusing on specialty pencils, such as colored pencils and pastel pencils, #2 writing pencils are still number one as a staple supply. Their graphite lead lends themselves well to being sharpened by various types of pencil sharpeners. Specialty pencils, however, require a more delicate approach. Many pencil manufacturers will recommend sharpening their pencils using a knife with a whittling technique. For obvious reasons, this technique isn’t feasible for most people, so second best to this approach would be to use a hand held sharpener. One we are fond of is the Alvin Kum Long Point Pencil Sharpener. It’s a two hole application; one hole removes the wooden casing while the other hole fine tunes the point of the lead making it an ideal sharpener for various types of pencils.

And if an electric sharpener is a must for your purposes, we would suggest the X-Acto School Pro. It’s popular amongst educators, home schools, or individuals who want to get a lot of use out of a pencil sharpener. If you use it with colored pencils, make sure to run a graphite pencil through the sharpener to help clean the blade from wax build up.
