In Improve Your Pastel Painting (http://artistsnetwork.tv/p-339-improve-your-pastel-painting-with-arnold-lowrey.aspx) video workshop, playing now on ArtistsNetwork.tv (http://www.ArtistsNetwork.tv), artist Arnold Lowrey (http://artistsnetwork.tv/c-2-workshops.aspx?fcat=artist&Artist=Arnold%20Lowrey) takes you step by step through two exciting painting demos that will help you improve your skills and capture a strong sense of mood in your paintings! In the first demo youíll paint a rough sea at night, practicing a range of strokes and blending techniques as you layer deep color and create a sense of movement and drama. In the second demonstration youíll focus on composition and perspective as you paint a summer landscape and distant sunlit building.

In this preview, youíll create a dramatic night sky, laying in loads of rough color then blending to establish a powerful backdrop for your subject. Visit ArtistsNetwork.tv (http://www.ArtistsNetwork.tv) for access to the full-length video.

I loved this!

I spent the day with my little granddaughter today, since I'm moving and won't have as much Grandpa time once I'm gone. I remembered Arnold Lowrey's earlier videos and decided to see if she was interested. She was. So I watched it while she was at church and then she came in to spend all afternoon with me painting.

I've meant to paint along with these for some time, just never got around to it. Why not do that with Sascha as a fun afternoon? I knew Arnold Lowrey's classes were fun and interesting, well paced and easy to understand. So we got out our pads of unsanded pastel paper and pastels and had a go.

I did Lowrey's seascape demo painting and so did my seven year old granddaughter. That is how good Mr. Lowrey is at teaching. Bright, talented, artistic seven year old girl produced an amazing seascape right alongside me. That the same lesson helped a seven year old beginner and a 56 year old serious painter is something I have to take my hat off to.

This video rocks. If you hate Canson Mi-Tientes and love pastels, you really need it. Lowrey's techniques make that, colorful, easy to find pastel paper as fun to work with as the good sanded papers.

Sascha's painting and mine are posted in July Pastel Sketch Thread in the Pastel Talk Forum if you're curious to see how hers came out. I'm amazed by it - by how much of his techniques she grasped. If I could give it more than five stars, I would.
