View Full Version : First extra large painting!

I am beginning my very first extra large painting. Also am looking for ANY good tips people might have for me before I begin. Here are a few of my questions:

What should I paint on (canvas, wood...)? I'm thinking of doing a 7' size.
I heard that using interior satin finish paint works well for this along with acrylics...?
Anyone have ideas for inexpensive places to shop for supplies?

Thanks so much.

Try this company for paint: Nova Color (http://novacolorpaint.com/) You might also consider using house brands from Dick Blick or other maker of paint. They sometimes have a great price...especially if on sale.

I, personally, am not a big supporter of house paint for fine arts work. House paint is designed for houses. I wonder about the pigments and such let alone the additives. Just my hangup.

If using canvas be sure to get a heavy weight canvas. If using panels, consider the limitations of the panels sizes, most are available in 4X8' sheets. If you are going larger there may be some engineering issues that need addressing.
